In regards to Poyet, shall we be realistic.

Now the guys done a great job for us in turning our season around last term and has brought some good players in and seems the real deal in my opinion.

I like his style, I like his honesty and I like the way he wants us to play.

But all this Poyet contract talk has got me thinking, I mean what is he really signing?!

Anyone who thinks the guy will be here for 4 years is deluded, all he is really signing is a compensation package contract that enables us to ask for the most money when he leaves for bigger and better things.

At the slightest sight of success next season, he will have every club wanting his services im afraid....as we are all too aware that clubs want young managers and especially ones that are ex players of the calibre of Poyet, but I think Bloom knows this and aslong as he gets us out of league one.... I for one would be happy with this, as he's obviously ambitious and wants to manage at the highest level.

Now I dont think we need to worry just yet, even though links have been made to the Swans, as I dont think Gus would jump ship too early before he's acheived anything...so I can see him here for a while longer.

If Poyet can get us up next season, assemble a good sqaud of pro's capable of staying in the higher tier and financially weve not broken the bank...then the guy can leave with most of our blessing im sure.

I agree, he wont walk for swansea now. We have the potential to be a swansea but bigger, but I suppose one thing we do have in our favour if we do go up is he prob wouldnt walk for another championship club.

I might shag Lilly Allen next week - more likely it will be Clive Allen - what will be will be.

It would be very sad if we forgot to enjoy the today because of an unpredictable tomorrow.

this, i was not as much of a passionate supporter in the dark years and am about 2/3rds through build a bonfire at the moment - gus has said in public that this is his 1st management project and he wants to try and get us in the prem inside 5 years of getting to the championship so for the first time in years and years we have something to look forward to, get on the gus bus and enjoy it while it lasts!!!!!

Poyet close to new deal
Gus Poyet has declared that he is poised to sign a fresh long-term contract with Brighton, making it 'practically impossible' for him to go to Swansea.

The Uruguayan was a contender for the Swans position a year ago before the Welsh club opted for Paulo Sousa.

Sousa left Swansea on Monday to hold talks with Leicester about replacing Nigel Pearson at the Walkers Stadium.

Poyet has therefore been linked with the Swansea post once again but he insists he is happy at Brighton and set to commit his future to the League One club.

Speaking about Swansea, Poyet said: "I would say it is practically impossible. I am very close to signing a four-year deal here and everything is agreed."

This last line is closer to my thinking on the whole situation. There's an awful lot of quite negative "he'll jump ship at the first offer" and "just using us as a stepping stone, no loyalty" etc.. when I like to look at it as a more win-win situation for us. He's had no success with us yet, and as such, very few clubs will be after him. IF he is successful with us (ie. Championship football at first Falmer season, playing in-front of 16,000+ crowds) - then suddenly there's a whole host of Championship clubs (and even probably relegation Prem sides) who AREN'T a more attractive prospect than us. At that point I think it'd take a real top Premier League to finally take him off us, which even that point, might seem unlikely.

Regardless of it all, I think we should just enjoy the ride under Poyet's guidance, however long it lasts, as I think we can all sense it'll be a good one.

At the end of the day, contracts mean nothing. He could sign a four-year deal tomorrow then get poached by West Ham on Thursday, all it would is more money for us.

There are three outcomes as I see it :

1) He does v.well with us this season, and he's poached by someone higher.
2) He does poorly with us this season, we'll all the screaming for him to be sacked.
3) He does average for us, maybe play-off contention and he'll still be here.

That's about it.

He may be here longer if we only reach mid-table and you never know.......... every one on here seems to think we are nailed on certs to reach the play-offs at least but he is still an unknown/unproven manager with a track record no better than Slade and look what happened to him the season following his heroics with us!!*
