If you own a BEKO Fridge Freezer manufactured between January 2000 and October 2006, check on the trading standards website to see if your appliance is affected, as soon as possible.

The problem occurs when water gets into the defrost timer switch, which can lead to an electrical malfunction resulting in plastic components and other highly flammable insulation inside the appliance catching on fire. Beko has been alerted to the problem which the LFB says has caused 20 fires and one death in London since 2008.

Anyone with concerns should contact Beko by calling their free phone number on 0800 009 4837 or visiting Beko : Important Product Information for Fridge Freezers

I heard this on the radio earlier today. I've checked the serial number of our model and fortunately it isn't a faulty one.

i am currently doing the remedial work on the affected models.
ive changed about a dozen defrost timers and yet to find one that could have potentionally been a risk.

worth checking though :)

if you live in eastbourne/brighton and do need a visit...strong tea, no sugar

If this carries on I will have to tidy the loft, myself.

How do you find out if it's a BEKO, i've got one of those intergrated things and can't find a name anywhere?

Funny thing is though, yesterday morning i thought i could smell electrical burning in the house and reading this is sort of making me a bit paranoid.

I'm booked in for a visit next week - I make sh't tea but alright coffee

Mine has randomly defrosted before in the past - a couple of times meaning I've had to throw a load of stuff away. Do you reckon this is one of those 'at risk' ones?

take the crisper drawers out, you should see a stick on label with manufacturers name, model and serial number

well worth checking the model/serial number

frost free appliances are notoriously crap and WILL need defrosting manually once a year to keep them operating properly
