For future reference - If ever you get invited for a few beers with a group of undertakers, don't go.

You are making assumptions. I have worked in jobs where you develop a dark sense of humour but kept it within the appropriate environment.

Very good point and something I considered before posting.

I reflected on what this might say about my responsibility to behave professionally. I am registered with a professional body and have a duty of care to my patients, employers and the general public.

No one, not even my friends, know my NSC username. I work inside the M25 (thousands of ICU beds in dozens of hospitals). I was deliberately vague about the individuals I referred to. I have been deliberately vague regarding my profession.

You are absolutely right to raise your concern and I hope I’ve satisfied you with my response.

Thank you for putting my mind at rest. I would hate it if someone in Shoreham/Lancing/ Worthing saw this and realised who you saw.

An observation on the human condition that caused me to double take the situation and prompted me to share. We humans perceive any overwhelmingly emotional situation to switch off libido. It came as surprise to me that clearly for some that isn't the case. I thought that was interesting.

I am very comfortable discussing death and dying. It should not be a taboo subject. It is not 'sick'. It will happen to us all and sometimes funny and bizarre things happen around it.

Dildos shouldn't be taboo either. Just because it was in her handbag you shouldn't presume she was going to rush into the bogs and w**k herself off 2 seconds after her old man has popped his cloggs

In reality she was probably overcome by the situation and forgot to zip up her handbag. Either that or she didn't expect the medical staff to be so judgemental.

Another thought about this - you have to feel sorry for women sometimes. Once glimpse of a dildo in a handbag is enough to spark off uber-hilarity in the wards and the internet forums.

Luckily as a man I don't have that problem - I've got two sex-aids in full public view, permanently attached to the end of my arms

My mrs gives me grief for cracking one off / watching a bit of porn.

Imagine if i had 3 vibrators of my own that i kept in the drawer next to the bed (like someone I'm married to does)

Surely the OP was not being judgemental, he just reported what he had seen?

I was walking around Asda this morning and noticed a range of brightly coloured water bottles, including purple, on a shelf and immediately thought of this thread, could it have been just a poncey water bottle ?

So many sensative little souls pretending to be 'oh so offended' these days, it really is pathetic! The OP works in a morbid job and it's moments like the story he mentioned that keep you sane in a job like that. Thanks for sharing.

Didn't judge her. Didn't make any assumptions about why it was there. Didn't suggest she was about to use it. Didn't comment on the taboo/non-taboo nature of dildos. All I did was notice that there was a sex toy in an environment where I've never seen one before and didn't ever expect to see one. As I've already said, I thought that was interesting enough to share. Many on here have found it funny, myself included. Many, in response, have shared their own stories and experiences of humour and satire around death & dying. I think that's brilliant, liberating, cathartic and many other great things too. Isn't this a forum for like minded souls to share their experiences, thoughts, feelings & fears? I see so much more than football on NSC and it's ace.

I am programmed not to judge. I have provided healthcare to murderers, child molesters, modern slavers, rapists, terrorists, priests, policemen, orphans, nurses, addicts, the list goes on. Some died, some lived, some went to prison. Every single one of them got the healthcare they were entitled to because it is a basic human right.
