i wasnt refering to the success rate but the totals reported. in front of the HoC committee, the commander for border force claims 12k Albanians this year, mostly men. the article says 86% of successfull claims are women (of Albanian claimants). it doesn't account the number of unmade claims.

this is hardly nitpicking, highlighting what the man in charge is saying. some posters are trying to say there's no particular problem with Albanians. the commander in charge has a different view.
Really? Who? And this is your issue? What is your agenda? It seems to me you are seeking to engineer a new context. What is your solution?

I'm 37 and I can say most of my contemporaries, and I should imagine people younger than that, are much more concerned about the prospects of never owning their own home because they're paying the mortgage of some landlord, of not having beneficial social and economic ties to our closest neighbours enjoyed by the older generations and of the slow death of our planet.

Some people making a trip across the channel in a dinghy is pretty far down the bloody list.
If this comes out wrong I apologise in advance old boy, but IMHO its your basic human right to have an opportunity to pay for and live in your own home.

Again, we've lost our way when it comes to property ownership and prices, first up if Maggie was hellbent on selling off the Council houses she should have built a new one for every one she sold, but she didn't.

I was lucky enough in 1992, to buy a 3 bedroomed, mid terrace house, my first house, in Broadwater for £48,500 when I was earning £14,000PA, the houses in that road now go for between £375,000/£400,000 but people who were earning 14 grand a year 30 years ago haven't seen their wages go up at the same rate.

Where did we go wrong?, or perhaps equally as important who has made out of all this?

…and of course the ones that get turned down will just take it on the chin……hmm…i have a feeling they wouldnt and just pop over anyway and not bother with the ’process’ ….just a view i could be right i could be wrong
When they are intercepted, they’ll get sent straight back. The due process having already en completed.

And how is that worse than forcing absolutely everyone, men women and children, to cross the channel using people smugglers, and then having to house them all here for months while their applications get processed ?

It still an issue though surely i dont recall saying it was worse…….full marks for coming up with an alternative…generally all i see is moaning about the current system without suggesting an alternative

Nothing about that came out wrong at all Lenny! We're very much on the same wavelength on this one

I'm afraid there is very clear data on who has made out of all this over the last 12 years Lenny, and it's not me, you or @Steve Foster (although he thinks otherwise :dunce:).

I am different to you two though, as I don't keep voting for it

If they get intercepted? Hey I’m all up for sorting out the legitimate refugees
Yes. Intercepted. When the authorities pick them up in the channel or they get detained on beaches.
Obviously some will evade authorities but according to the Commander, they only work here for a year and then go home. So, no long term worries .

Why do people think that because we object to people being kept in substandard conditions that it is encumbant on us to solve the problem?

But okay, my alternative if they must be detained is to detain them in humane conditions.

When driving back from Scotland last year we had booked an Holiday Inn near Stoke. Using Satnav it took us to the address given but on driving in it was eerily quiet and we were quickly surrounded by a posse of security guards.
The hotel had been turned into an asylum centre for Afghan refugees and my wife who was driving was asked some probing questions. It turned out they had moved our booking to a Inn next to the Brittania Stadium which was an absolute hovel compared to our 1st choice.
They even tried to get us to pay £60 to let us go, I just asked them to phone the Police after which they let us drive out.

Thank you, but as I mentioned earlier, it's not actually an alternative I came up with. It's what Britain has done for decades prior to this Government destroying the whole asylum system, shutting down all methods of actually claiming asylum, forcing people into the hands of people traffickers, weaponising the whole thing in order to win votes and then blaming the victims

Sadly it's obviously still working

Teenage boy allegedly raped at hotel housing refugees in London

Exclusive: Met investigating two alleged sexual assaults at site, amid growing fears over safety of refugee facilities

A teenage boy was allegedly raped by a man in his 30s at a hotel used to house refugees in east London, and another alleged sexual assault against a child is said to have taken place at the same facility.

The Metropolitan police confirmed they were investigating both incidents, which come amid growing fears of chronic overcrowding and unsafe facilities for refugees that have put significant pressure on the home secretary, Suella Braverman.

The other child was allegedly sexually assaulted at the same accommodation facility in Walthamstow. The Met said a person had been charged with one count of sexual touching of a child under 13 and would appear in court next week.

The two incidents are alleged to have taken place within weeks of each other at a hotel where 150 children are reportedly squeezed in alongside 250 adults.

This is your post;

Hardly “jumping to conclusions”. Seems like you’re referring to people on here.

Be a bit clearer in future, perhaps?
