...who had gone out to Portugal and was at the match.

You'd start to think that life had something against you.

I know it's pretty hard to come to terms with what happened
last night, but as Royal Ali says, we did the same to swindon
almost. And for me, that makes it a little more bearable.

Still hurts though.

The same thought had occured to me. I hope we don't sound as bitter as they did.

I would have cared far more about losing that game against Swindon, about 20 times more to be honest.

I think I now have a better understanding of what swindon fans went through on that rainy night at withdean. However I still think that it was worse for them. Actually I think it was far worse for them.

We are still in it and was can progress. All is not lost, whereas with Swindon everthing was lost.

I am not bitter!! I am just GUTTED that we lost in the way we did, I felt England defended well throughout the game and only had to hold on for another 10 piggin minutes!!!

If Beckham had got the penalty I think we would have won! BLOODY GOOD SAVE THOUGH for the penalty!!

France will win this tournament!!

I don't think France WILL win unless they get a match where the opposition lies down and lets them walk all over them - at which point their arrogance will take them through.

They are too mentally fragile for me. I think the World cup is still at the back of their minds - if they had lost tonight they could easily have not won another game IMHO.

Totally agree. As Telly Vegatables said last night, Henry & Trezaguet had just ducked it - they'd given up a long time beforehand. Zidane - on the other hand - never stopped running and is another reason why he is the one of the best two players in the world, if not *the* best.

Hear, hear. I don't know what it is but I don't feel like I have such a stake in England as I do with the Albion.

I'd love us to win it, but even with England winning if you asked me to choose - Brighton every time.

Fortunately, I was unfortunate (eh?) enough to watch the Switzerland vs Croatia game beforehand. And if we can't beat these poor excuses for football teams I'll be amazed.

I'm going to taunt a Swindon fan.

Reading some of the knee-jerk, hand wringing reactions on here I think we are.

Drop Owen, bring back Shearer, drop Gerrard? :shootself

f***ing hell people-get a grip! So, England lost in an important match...no surprise there is there?

Personally I'm disappointed we lost but some of the reactions on here have been hysterical.

For those that need it:

I'm thinking of slashing my wrists

It occurred to me too last night, that if you’re a Swindon you must really ask yourself what your team has to do to win.

Oh well, at least the Albion went up. And England may still do something in this tournament.
