My cat developed pancreatitis last May. The first thing we knew was him being violently sick everywhere, so I rang the vet as soon as it opened in the morning, was made to wait until 13.00 for an appointment, was told it was pancreatitis then. A few hours later we were told to take him to the hospital in Patcham to be kept on a drip overnight, and to pay for a scan. The next day at lunchtime, after the scan, we were offered further treatment or euthanasia. He wasn't insured and we had already paid out over £1500 so we went in and held him whilst they put him to sleep. He was almost 11.
The first vet told me he had pancreatitis so why all the blood tests and scan etc? When I looked it up, like you, I found out that pancreatitis is fatal. He could have been put to sleep on the first day without all the tests and drips etc.

That is out and out robbery, knowing there is nothing they can do, and still taking money off you.
Are they on commission or something, there can be no excuse to make the cat suffer further, and raise more or less false hope on the doting family, despicable if true.

It affected me greatly but hopefully, he didn't suffer as he was on painkillers via a drip. False hope? Yes.

I give my modern (ish) car to the local garage, they always say 'but you could do this' excpet A I hate working on modern cars, they're big, heavy plastice bla bla

I happily spent Saturday in the workshop building a gearbox for a lotus cortina race car, to pay the man to do my road car . . . A far more efficient use of time for me, and I was doing something I enjoy and I'm all set up to do.

To be honest I am a bit picky when it comes to who I use. I like to know the technicians are more logical in thinking and a fixer rather than a fitter, although I do know many times it can be cheaper to fit than fix, because of labour prices.
I still prefer that type of technician I recently had that when a boiler man repaired my parents seized fan, if he had not they would have been without heating for a day or two. He understood that without prompting. Top lad imo.

We used them for many years. Compassionate vets, huge bills. Never seemed to leave them without an £800 bill.

The previous owners sold out 7 years ago for a £1.6m windfall gain, which reveals the underlying cash cow/profitability of the business.

They’ve always opened 365, 24/7, so out of hours work is pushed their way.


There’s a far cheaper vet’s specialising in cats and rabbits very close by to New Priory, nice people, but just regular hours.

I believe that, my friend also married an American and she moved over here when they found out to have their baby and moved back when he was two. We do not know how lucky we are with the NHS and paid holidays, most Americans don't believe me when I tell them the NHS is free, what's the catch etc. They really don't believe me when I tell them I get 26 paid holidays and bank holidays a year, it is alien to them.

Land of the free my arse, Land of the Fee more like.

My neighbours use a vet in Seaford who seems reasonable, so I might well change.
