More shite.
:lolol:

Shite or not, its the reality.

Leeds isnt "there for the taking". Its going to be a tough game. Like any game Brighton are playing in the Premier League. Thats the reality.

Its also not a "must win game". Regardless of the outcome Brighton will remain a football club and play more games.

I think leeds may define the rest of our season in a few ways.

We are struggling to win as we all know, and are sliding slowly down the league after giving us, perhaps false, hope that we had learned how to play this division and would push on. If we don’t win at home to leeds, who let’s face it are there for the taking, I can see this being a very long winter ahead with the likes of Chelsea, West Ham Man United etc looming up on us.

Be watching spuds this afternoon and hoping they can put leeds away today and pile more pressure on the “ chosen one”

BTW. a Man City looking very good against a side that we were not even close to at our place!

Newcastle, Villa, Leeds, West ham and Southampton will define our season. We were top 6, I think, before Newcastle. If we have designs on top 10 we should be taking at least 8 points from those games. 3 points or less and we will be drifting into a relegation battle. We have 1 point from the first two.

Since Danny Welbeck went off injured in the draw with Palace, we've drawn with Liverpool, Leicester, Arsenal, Norwich and Newcastle. The only team to beat us in seven weeks before today was Man city. Hardly reason to start panicking.

But it is time for the club to sort out a suitable back up.

its not about panic, its about realising after a great start we've returned to relegation form. we are once again not going forward, the points on the board early disguise this.

We're not going to finish top 10 this season...

We simply don't have the squad to score enough goals to achieve it.

A 15+ goal striker would have changed that depressing fact.

I completely agree with you on your broader point about not having enough goals in the side, but this oft repeated mantra of failing to land the 15+ goals a season man is just fantasy for us.

Last season, the only PL players to get 15 or more goals were:

Kane
Salah
Fernandes
Son
Bamford
Calvert-Lewin
Vardy

Not entirely sure which one we missed out on.

Aye …and sign this striker and he then gets injured…see how Leeds are struggling without Bamford , likewise Everton without Calvert Lewin

It's not until you see a stat like that, that the holy grail of landing a prolific striker is put into perspective. At th e start of last season, there was no guarantee that any of those strikers would reach 15 goals, and there is no guarantee they will repeat it this season. At the other end of that list, Newcastle spent 40 million pounds on Joelinton, whose return is currently 6 goals in 2 and a quarter seasons. Buying a single, lone striker is high risk.

Maybe it's better to aim for goals to come from all over the pitch. And if that doesn't work, at least we've spread the cost, risk and blame amongst the whole team.

I think that part of the problem is...because we don't have a striker or two capable of taking half chances, this fact translates into our build up play becoming more deliberate and slower, in attempts to walk the ball into the net. If we had a striker who took half chances, we may well see faster build up play. It's partly a confidence thing.

If the team was set up to play more attacking football, we'd create chances and the players we have are capable of taking them, when presented. What we don't need is Lallana strolling about looking lovely but not contributing anything going forward. There are too many players in the team who are offering no attacking threat at all and it's the managers fault for including them all. It's very clear what the problem is but nothing is being done with the players at his disposal to address it.

This is true. The issue is more one of attacking threat. We simply don’t have enough players in the XI who score goals. March, Lallana and Biss can’t hit a cows rear end with the proverbial, Trossard doesn’t score as many as he should, Maupay is on the bench, Gross is an assister more than a scorer. Mac Allister looks like he has a goal in him, but rarely on the pitch. Simply not enough goals in the side (or pace).

It seems to me that it has far more to do with how the opposition are set up to play than how we are set up.

We struggle against disciplined defensive teams.
We become very slow and predictable, looking for spaces that are closed down quickly.

We are very easy on the eye when the opposition are more attacking.

Exactly.

We grind to halt when the opposition sits deep in numbers. Opposition coaches are fully versed now in Potter's tactics.

If only ALL the 19 coaches did a Klopp/Guardiola/Rodgers and took us on in an expansive game of football.

Fortunately there is also Bielsa.

Most on here saying we struggle against teams that sit back. What do you think on Saturday against a side that seems to throw every one forward from the off

I don't agree with the bold statement in the slightest.

Why do you think Potter hasn't realised the usual tactics work and tried to find other solutions? Flooding the central areas of the pitch hasn't worked, why hasn't he changed approach? I have my ideas, curious what your thoughts are.

I didn't watch the game, but just going on the frequently quoted possession stats, my guess is they weren't throwing everyone forward on Saturday.

edit: just realised you mean the next game not the last one.

I think he believes the tactics will work, when the players improve ( and play quicker) -
He puts a lot of faith in his approach of constant improvement.
