Not for the first time this season, I'm watching a Baseball match, because I'm a Nat'nals fan, well I am now, it's a bit like being a Man City fan from anywhere other than Manchester.

Any hoo the thing is, it's a bit boring and dull.

They moan about cricket '5 days and it's a draw' 'the only sport that stops for tea', but blimey charlie at least in cricket they hit the ball, and it's not like every time that happens the ball is caught.

I'm really struggling here.

It's piss poor ... they have double headers - play one game and then play another right after ... you could die of old age watching that!

Indeed, of all the american sports I find it very dull.

I love the NBA and can see the attraction of Ice Hockey and American Football (although far too spot start for me) but Baseball is terrible

I've tried baseball, it's hard work, but as a cricket fan I kind of get the slow pace of it as well.

Like with most sports, once you know whats going on and understand the nuances of the game it can be quite entertaining.

Basketball is the one I just can't get into. Up one end then down the other every 10 seconds, wheres the anticipation of 'when will we score'? Last couple of minutes can be exciting if the scores are close though.

I like it, even though team I follow (Boston) are dogshit on toast these. Conversely I can't see the point of cricket. Hitting a ball with a bat that big looks a piece of piss. Might as well play football with goals the width of the pitch.

Never played it then I guess?

One thing I will say, being a big NFL fan, which does then lead me into Baseball and Basketball.
The US sports websites are all first rate.

Not to mention cheating wannabe Ray Mears, Bear Gryliss, is advertising over there.

I guess as he has no credibility over here, and he's not tough enough to go to Aussieland, the US was the last bastion for the 5* hotel dwelling lowlife.

I know a lot of Americans have the same hatred for the Yankees that Brighton fans have for Man U and Chelsea – definitely seen as the ‘Evil Empire’

I like baseball it's not that hard to understand. Like many American sports they try to over complicate things with having too many statistics. Just don't get bogged down with all that.

I was chatting with my boss the other day, his son is on a soccerball scholarship at Washington University. He was telling me that games are 90 minutes and if the teams are drawing after the 90 they play two 10 minute halves of the golden goal rule but if the game is still a draw then it finishes (a draw). They just don't get Soccerball.

Must say I really enjoy baseball. Was one of the things I wanted to experience on my first trip to States.

Was lucky to be given tickets for a match at Camden Yard in Baltimore. The Baltimore Orioles were playing the last match of the season to win the title.

They won, the stadium was fantastic and atmosphere terrific.

Great memories.

Life is a marvelous metaphor for baseball.

(No, I don't have that backwards...)

Daughter's playing college (i.e. university) rugby. Though I played some barroom-league sevens as a young 'un, I'm following the 15-player version for the first time now, in my 50's. Picking stuff up is good for the soul. If you're learning, you're living.

Baseball is a great sport (even for us Blue Jays fans these days)-once you understand it. When I moved to Canada I tried watching baseball for the first summer I was there and I just didn't get it. All the stats being spewed out during the game, not understanding why a hit was a hit, RBI's, slugging percentages, earned runs, the language of the game, etc., etc. Then it clicked and since then I've loved the game. I appreciate what it takes to hit a ball that's coming at you at 95mph, hitting it 400+ feet with a round bat (it ain't easy). Until you understand the game, the tactics employed by managers can get lost on the casual observer. Understand the game and it's a great way to pass 3 hours on a warm summer evening. Beer allowed as you watch the game makes it very civilised too.
