Bournemouth have appealed against the red card Illia Zabarny's received at the weekend.

If the appeal is successful, he can play against us tomorrow night.

It won't be overturned. I don't think he meant any malice, but he got his tackle wrong at went in with the studs.

All the TS and MOTD pundits felt it unfair along the lines of:
”Such a brilliant tackle, the impact of the leg with the ball created the movement that wrongly makes it look like a bad foul”.
”VAR shouldn’t have use of slow-mo’s, end of. Gives a false impression”.
Rubbish (and I'm not suggesting that you are agreeing with their interpretation - you don't really state either way), that's a red all day. It's not the impact of the leg with the ball, it's the impact of the bottom of his foot with the leg.

Winning the ball or a lack of intent isn’t mitigation, the key in the law is:

“SERIOUS FOUL PLAY
A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent”.

SERIOUS FOUL PLAY

A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

Thems the rules.

That couldn’t be more red if it was pairing a Liverpool shirt with Socialist Worker underpants

One of those that looks bad in slomo. I thought a yellow was fine and the ref got it right at full speed. It’s more or less a textbook sliding tackle - dragging his other leg and in control. Wasn’t excessive force. Just unfortunate that as he won the ball his foot bounced up. Doubt it will be overturned though.
