The answer is P.

Pearl Jam
Prince
Pulp
Paul Weller
Pixies
PJ Harvey
Portishead
Pavement
Peace
Pendulum
Percy Sledge
Pink floyd
Placebo
The police
Pretenders
Public Enemy
Protocol Harum.

Truth be told the decision was made at Pearl Jam.

Pixies, PJ Harvey, Portishead, Placebo - marvellous; 4 of my fave bands

If only you'd included Psychedelic Furs, your list would have been perfect :)

It's weird using the first name of someone rather than the surname - that's not how most filing systems work but it would have to be J for me

It's how iTunes works. Or how mine is set up, at least - and it's my game.

Nice to see so many involved.

PS I should probably point out that you don't have to name ALL acts you're taking. Just enough to justify to your letter choice (to yourself and others).

I mean, if you've chosen a letter and then remembered you have an extra favourite artist with that letter after 12,163 days in i̶s̶o̶l̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ paradise, then bonus!

The Who

I’ll take Wizzard as well, along with the criminally underrated World of Oz. And I’ll rename the Small Faces as the Wee Faces and that's me sorted.

I’ll pass on Westlife.

Oh, I'm not complaining

I forgot John Grant and John Martyn

My music player is set up by first name too, just checked. I can add John Renbourn, Joni Mitchell, Justin Adams, Jenny Hval, Johan Johansson and James Taylor to the list too.

I won't be bored

In the days of having to lug boxes of 6" singles around (yes, I'm that old) I know that S was the biggest selection. But my filing system has Rod Stewart in S which is great, along with Slade, Shalamar, Sparks, Soft Cell, Specials, The Snowmen (?) Shakin Stevens and this-

You'll be disappointed when you get to the island and find that you don't have any Rod Stewart.

I just clicked in to this thread as someone kindly gave me a Thumbs Up, only to be interrupted by a full page Dear Sky customer. Congratulations, one of 10 winners to celebrate loyalty to Sky Broadband. Just complete our anonymous survey. Presumably a scam, but anyone else had similar? Sorry to interrupt the thread flow...

Pack your bags, we’re going to a secluded island. It might be years - or forever.

But you can only take/stream music by artists beginning with ONE LETTER.

Which letter do you choose?

It’s really, really hard. I keep changing my mind.

Rules:

Take “The” off band names and “DJ” off artist names. So The Verve, is V. DJ Shadow is S.

Solo artists count by their FIRST names. So David Bowie is D.

Combinations count by first artist name only. So Queen & David Bowie is Q.

Who files solo artists under their first name rather than surname other than purely digital people.

If I looking for Bowie I don't go to D section, so rather than just looking at which letter I have the most albums for I have to work out all the individual names.

So W misses out on Weller, Wonder, Winwood just to name 3.

I'm out (sorry not having a good morning)

Looks at calendar. It's 2020, pal. The vast majority of music collections in the world are digital.

Also, I set the rules. Feel free to set up a rival version just to fit in with your cataloging system.

I should've included Shalamar, Shannon and The SOS band.

Just a single letter? Hmmm ................. I think one along the lines of:

"Dear Sir,
I would like to offer you £15K for your collection of vinyl" (that you've hardly played for the last twenty years) might just get my interest..............................
