I'll always have fond memories of listening to John Peel
So why was he cautioned for accessing a child porn site ?He didn't look at kiddy porn. The book came out a year ago.
No evidence was found of any indecent images on the eleven computers that the police went through.
All charges against him were dropped.
So why was he cautioned for accessing a child porn site ?
Yes. The political views wouldn't bother me so much (depending on the severity of the views obviously).
Oh right , that clears everything up then , silly me , meanwhile i wonder if you can help me out , my father was the finance minister of Nigeria and I have $100 million frozen in a bank account and you can help me release it , all i need is your bank details...............He was cautioned for attempting to access a child porn site. Subtle difference. He didn't access it in the end. He says in the book that he put his credit card information in, then cancelled it upon reflection 30 seconds later before it was cleared. At the time, what he was doing wasn't a crime (not that that is much of defence).
If he hadn't accepted the caution (i.e. the investigation continued), he would have been cleared of any charges, as no evidence was offered. Instead of having it hang over him for months or even years while the investigation went on, he accepted the caution.
It's been a while since I read the book, and for someone who wrote such great songs and essays, it's a pretty poorly-written book.

No offence, but IMO that's a feeble acceptance of a lame excuse, biased massively by your affection for The Who.
If you'd read exactly the same facts in a newspaper about a random other middle-aged man, I daresay your take on it would be entirely different.
Of course no evidence was offered - there was no trial, because he ACCEPTED THE CAUTION.

Tricky one this. The genius function on my iPod just played me Last Summer. It still is a great song, but tarnished now.
The photo that they've used on the BBC - looks like the arrest mug shot - makes Watkins look really dodgy: beard, slicked back greying hair and sinister looking eyes.
David Bowie comes to mind *Taps Nose*
