Which players would you want to keep in our squad, and which players would you want out (from our actual squad, not loans). Where would you then want us to strengthen?
I'd go for:

GK - Sullivan, Kuipers

Defenders - Elphick, Virgo, Hinshelwood, El-Abd, Whing, McNulty

Midfielders - Cox, Birchall, Fraser, Livermore

Strikers - Davies, Forster, Murray, Robinson

From that we need 4 new midfielders. A creative central midfielder, a couple of wingers and a good holding player (Dicker/Bangura?)

I'd be happy with the striking and defensive options. Maybe a left back as cover for McNulty.

Hopefully get Lynch back.

Get Joel Lynch back and keep Whing and our defence would be top quality no matter what league we are in. Keep Dicker and Bangura and then get a right or left winger. Get Murray and Forster fit and try and keep Owusu as back up and with Davies the forward line don't look to bad either

Well for starters Cox and Robinson can do one. :) Whatever division we find ourselves in.

Robinson is useless and Cox plays well in about 4 games a season.

Loft is conference standard.

but yet was starting for a mid table team in the league below us...

Agreed.

Whing, Elphick, Lynch, McNulty...now that's a quality defence.

Pretty happy with the GK and defenders, unless we can get somebody really good. Definitely need some midfielders, although we could just about manage with a diamond:

El Abd
Cox / Davies Fraser
Cox / Davies -

but only at a stretch, and we'd need cover too. Bit worried about the forwards; Fozzie's career must be nearing the end of the road, and he and Murray both seem to be a bit fragile, and I'm still not sure about Davies. Will Gargan break through next season, and can he hack it?

I would think the list of players we want to keep will be much the same irrespective of whether we're in League 1 or 2, although admittedly we may find it difficult to hold on to Murray if we go down. Unfortunately, a number of players that I'd most like to get rid of are still under contract, but ideally I would say goodbye to (in order or urgency):

Mayo
Livermore
Hawkins
Hart
McLard
Robinson
Loft
Bangura

One or two people have suggested we get rid of Owusu. Although he hasn't set the world on fire I'd keep him and Davies as cover for Fozzie and Glenn - pretty good cover at our level. Of the other loanees, Borrowdale would also be a decent permanent signing.

Replace Elphick with Virgo and I think you'd have one of the best defences at this level. I honestly can't see Lynch coming back though (hope to be proved wrong), so a central pairing of Virgo and Elphick would still be quality.

interesting reading given our current position. seems to boil down to, the players we have are pretty good for the most part.

so who will we have in the back room to coach and manage this group to where they should be?

We quite clearly need a proper first team coach. That HAS to be the top priority this summer, regardless of which division we're in.
