Another question. Do the residents of Goldstone Lane regret to objecting against the development of the East Terrace back in the day....or do they like having a 24 hr Burger King instead?

As much as I loved the place, it was falling to bits and dilapidated!

Without too much trouble it could have been modernised end by end over a period of time and in the time that we have been away from there the complete ground would have been modernised at a lower cost than FALMER is going to cost.

The plan was to rotate it round 90 degrees so the pitch would have gone East to West. North and South stands both had in the past planning permission for two tier stands which would have been ammended to increase the size to cover the full length of the pitch. The industrial units to the west of the ground on old shoreham road were to be relocated to where the south stand was. It could have been great, but then Archole came along and the whole thing got ditched in favour of moving to a pie in the sky stadium at Toads Hole.

To be honest I don't think redeveloping The Goldstone RIP would have been a reasonable option. The site was just too small. However, it would have been nice to stay there whilst we waited for a new ground!

Think Lammy is right, although not a city centre site the pure logistics of redeveloping the Goldstone would have made costs prohibitive, remaining there over the past few seasons would have allowed far more people on the roller coaster than Withdean has and helped build up our support in the run up to Falmer.

If we were still at The Goldstone wed be in a very crap stadium and probably still in Division 1.

The place was falling apart and was realisticly never going to be modernised becasue of the idiots who lived behind the East stand.

Funny, while in the shower just now, my thoughts wandered back to those days spent on the North Stand... :clap2: Great times.

That's odd, the shower usually reminds me of Withdean. Especially when the hot water has run out....

This was covered indepth a while back, it would be a 14k all seater and we'd be going nowhere as the council would say that the capacity is adequate and no new stadium is required, so raise your glasses to Belotti and Archer for putting us on the road to Falmer.
