[Albion] If the current season is now cancelled....

Can’t see the season being cancelled to be honest, it will cause carnage with relegation, promotion and European qualification issues and clubs impacted will be taking legal action left, right and centre. Only option is to extend the season into June / July and delay the start of the new season to September (I expect the Euros will get postponed until next year). We’ll then see more midweek games next season to bring it back on track to finish in May as normal.

Who are they going to legally challenge? A ****ing bat* in Wuhan district doesn't have any way of paying back the untold trillions it's caused.

*Armadillo, whatever.

Money doesn't matter compared to health. But..... I will feel some resentment towards English football if I am expected to bite the bullet of "wasted" (not lost) money on tickets for games that are never played and then continue to pay a dd now for a season we don't know when may start.......when the players (most of them bang average in terms of quality) have received and continue to receive huge, huge sums of money in their salary.

So could they:

Finish the league as it stands, no relegation from the PL, 2 teams in the auto places come up from the Championship and next season is a 22 team PL, with 5 teams relegated at the end to re-balance.

Below therefore no teams relegated from the Championship, 2 up from League One, again, 5 team relegation next season and so on.

Europe places resolved as it currently stands, or play offs or something. That's a lot easier than relegation or promotion.

Damn right! 1 weeks suspension of players pay just in the PL should be enough to fund every single season ticket in the land for the games missed! In fact, you might only have to suspend Pogba's pay for a week and you've covered the refund costs...

Match day bar staff, catering staff, stewards etc. won't presumably get paid. Lots of others up and down the country will be laid off/lose their jobs with reduced or no pay. If UEFA, the FA, the PL and the EFL all declare a temporary reduction in players' wages, citing force majeur surely they'd have a pretty good case. If the players/the PFA/the agents all started rushing to court, they certainly wouldn't get much support.

Direct debits info states :

7.4 Subject to clause 7.1, all Season Ticket payments are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances where the Club may, at its sole discretion, agree to grant a full or partial refund. Refunds may be subject to the deduction of a fee to cover the administration costs incurred by the Club in processing such a refund (currently £50) and will be paid by cheque or reversed Direct Debit.

In the current situation obviously everyone's focus is on the critical health issues and getting the ' world well again'. However, the reality is that many people will be financially impacted by the Corona virus and accordingly may not just be able to write off the money in some grand gesture. The club will come up with some solutions i.e. partial refunds , shop vouchers, discount off next season, donation to AITC. It would seem inconceivable that they would just stick two fingers up to everyone and say thanks for the cash

That's a really good proposal. I can't think of a fairer solution than that.

Cancelling now would bring about all sorts of wailing and gnashing of teeth (and what do we do with promotion, relegation, European places etc.) In a few weeks' time it's likely the situation will be a bit more clear and a cancellation will have easier acceptance.

Yes but this will be fantastic

Clubs would take legal action against the league for making a decision that adversely impacts them. Put it this way, if we were in the relegation places at this point in time and the PL decided to end the season as it stands and we would be relegated, do you think the club would just accept that ?

No guarantee that the season will be able to resume in the summer. The Season should be suspended, but I think it will eventually be cancelled, as I think it unlikely that it can be resumed and completed in a reasonable time frame.

I agree there are no guarantees the season could be resumed in the summer, but it’s my understanding that the virus can’t survive in warmer / hotter temperatures, so if we get some warmer weather come May then you would certainly hope the peak would have passed and the season can then be resumed at that point. Who knows !

so to avoid "carnage", propose scheduling carnage for the next season.
its not the only option, there are many. the sensible option is the one with least change.

Hardly carnage scheduling extra midweek games next season is it. From memory I don’t think we had a midweek league game until December so plenty of opportunity to spread some midweek games across September, October, November & December !

I fully expect the premier league and the clubs will all agree to finish the full season - even if it means a significant overrun. Sure we will need some kind of transfer/registration window to facilitate this. Also expect uncertainty on the structure/duration of the season that follows that will roll on until 19/20 is finally wrapped up.

Cannot see any other option. Voiding the season opens up a legal minefield.

So Coronavirus will be gone by June/July ? Suspect it will be around a lot longer than that. If we delay season for a month what's to say other players / fans won't pick it up in April, May, June... at that point do we delay the season again?

It’s my understanding that the virus can’t survive in warmer / hotter weather, so while I accept there’s no guarantees with our weather, May is usually a decent month for weather and you would hope that we pass our peak by then and while it will still be around in some capacity we should be able to resume in June. But I appreciate the weather has a part to play in making that possible.

Factcheck guy on LBC was shooting down some of the myths including surviving in hot temperatures. It is currently surviving in countries whose current temperature is in excess of 27 degrees +
