core point in the debate for me was Salmon responce to the question about what he'd do if there was a large hole in the budget with no formal currency union. the wise, observant watcher will note he completely avoided this and instead attacked Darling for having a budget deficit problem. which is exactly what Salmon couldnt do, so would have to cut something. the unobservant would probably have been drawn into Salmon's rhetoric here and ignored the underlying economics of the matter, as Salmon talked over Darling to create alot of noise and no signal.

i reckon Salmon might have swayed people, wrongly, to his side there. on the otherhand, he could have turned those that understand the economics against, with the combination of 6th form debating and lack of economic understanding.
