If the worlds leading scientists created a robot so sophisticated it could think for itself and make judgement calls and decisions while interacting with others, would that machine deserve human rights?

Or perhaps you believe that it'd only prove that machines without consciousness can do the same tasks that we as humans can achieve, and it'd undermine what we believe to be consciousness and make it a less interesting area of study?
