Steele’s had a few shakey moments and right now I prefer Bart (who’s also had a number of shakey moments) but it’s so hard to play like we are made to as well. Hardly like it’s a case of picking Graeme Smith or someone so inept at their level as he was - feels a bit spoilt to say this sort of stuff for me.

Use the Ignore Thread option. It works a treat for me on the Let's Count To Whatever Number It Is (Unless We All Die First) thread, that shite Jukebox one plus the daily horse racing thing. Gone.

I thought mods had to keep an eye on all active threads, perusing for aggro. The Let’s Count thread can be particularly nasty  :lolol:

If you ever feel like kicking off, the Let’s Count To 500’000 thread is the one to do it on. I don’t think any of us ever venture on there.

Having said that, I do visit it occasionally; I’m waiting for it to get to up to 499,999 then I’m gonna lock it.

They started that thread at number 1. The latest number posted on that thread is 15,400 - on post number 14,033.

Are Albion fans the worst counters in the world?

Actually, that's exactly what it is. Good with his feet, no chance of making anything other than routine saves and an expert in picking the ball out of his own net.

We can only dream of the trio of Ankergren, Brezovan and Gonzalez

I understand why he says he rotates, I just don't think he's correct.

Steele's passing is not better, his range of passing is worse.

Bart's overall passing accuracy is 92.1%, Steele 83.6%.
Bart also has an average of 65% shot stopping in the PL which is the average whilst JS is the joint worst in the league with 55%. For a club with top ten ambitions JS is not the man to take us forward.

Now, you see - responses like this are really silly.

Roberto de Zerbi is (as per my earlier post that you quoted) a terrifically exciting manager, who sends his teams out to play a style of football that, when it works, is absolutely exhilarating.

I'll not apply to replace him, because A) I'm not, surprisingly, a professional football coach, with a UEFA Pro coaching license, and B) do not have 'the big balls' to coach a team to glorious successes.

(I'd be far too risk averse, and we'd draw loads of games 0-0 (1-1 on a good day). We might scrape to safety courtesy of a few moments of individual quality from the players, but the crowds would vote with their feet, and Uncle Tony would allow me to leave by mutual consent after one disappointing season...)

But that does not preclude me - a guy who has played, watched, and lived a shitload of football, over 5 decades - from having SOME valid opinions on areas where Roberto just might be able to do better.

In fact, a few of them, are points that he himself has suggested he could do better - which is slightly awkward for those who will see only absolute perfection in the guy.
Okay so you're not the finished article despite your vast experience. But who is? We all have opinions and for some weird reason poor Steele seems to be getting blamed for things.
But like I said, is there really any difference between Bart and Jason? I don't see it, nor does Roberto. Why has Roberto got this wrong in his match selection?

I don't usually like stat wars. But in this case I think it actually helps highlight the issue. Steele isn't bad at all. And you'd be hard pressed to find too many goals where he's clearly at fault. But over a longer period, he just doesn't save enough shots on target.

I think he's like 5% worse than Bart in terms of positioning and agility. But that 5% is telling over a number of games. At that level that's all it takes.

I don't think he'll play tonight.

I read a recent Bart interview he says obviously the club (Albion) became aware of me for my passing out, the rotation has been challenging for me and not what I expected. He goes on to say Jason is a nice guy etc.

I wasn’t sure what to make of his comments is he saying he wasn’t told this when he signed?

Well one is taller / bigger than the other and more prone to come out to catch crosses.
One has a significantly higher save percentage than the other.
One has better long range passing stats than the other.
One is calmer on the ball under pressure than the other.
One is quicker out sweeping behind the back line than the other.

Quite a lot of differences, tbh.

I have never viewed their statistics before, as my own eyes say there isn't much in it, so thought I would check on your points.
Bart's high claims are marginally better.
Bart has a one in 10 shot better saves success.
Jason has a better passes forward rate by a fair margin.
I can not find a calmer on the ball statistics?
Jason absolutely smashes Bart on sweeper clearances.
Bart has two errors leading to goal against Jason none.

This is really a non event to say Bart is the better keeper.

It could just be people don't like gingers or mature gents, who knows.

I am happy to go by Roberto choice for keeper and believe in the rest of the squad to make things happen.

I never said which of the two was the stronger on each stat! I certainly wasn't suggesting that Bart was better on all counts - he clearly isn't.

He is though, overall, a better keeper, in better form, IMO.

Suggesting that my opinion might be clouded by a dislike of mature, ginger goalkeepers, is actually very funny btw, given this is me...

This, for me, is where football stats become absolutely meaningless. They are, after all, simply the combined output of somebody making a subjective judgment call on in-game incidents or events. They aren't in anyway scientific and can only ever be part of the picture.

For example: according to the above quote - either someone somewhere, has decided that in the third minute of the cup game vs Wolves, Steele, (whilst under no pressure whatsoever) completely misjudging the flight of a routine high ball into the box and palming it into the 6 yard box wasn't an error that led to a goal? Or if the stats being quoted exclude cup games then that makes them incomplete and equally meaningless.

FFS.

Apologies on the ginger front, as I just can't see much of a difference between the two gents, you never know what rationale people will use these days!
Do we get to see your statistics?
