You loty are so negative - where has all the Villa hype gone? Yes we are in a bad league position, yes we are building from a poor position, but there is no doubt we are moving in the right direction, the only thing we need to concern ourselves with is whether it is fast enough

I must admit I had similar feelings to THPP when Palace appeared in the 1990 FA Cup final. We were struggling in the old Division Two, while Palarse had just been promoted to Division One (I think we only won 6 games at the Goldstone that season and away form kept us up - sound familiar?). For the first time, I (almost) wanted Palarse to win a game, as my then foster brother was a Manchester United fan and never stopped giving me grief about Brighton (at a time when they had won diddly squat for goodness knows how many years). Palace showed great spirit in that first match and probably deserved to win, just as we did in 1983. A very poor Man U side just winning the replay suited me just fine, as my brother couldn't crow and I didn't face the embarrassment of Palace going one better than us.

This isn't a bullshit post. If you want almost immediate success you need to spend £150M on players. Persaude 6 or 7 very good players at £10-20M each, pay them all £100K a week and bob's your uncle. Man City have done it. They were shit 6 months ago and just surviving in the Prem.

Go back a year and they came in 7th or 8th under Sven, with not a big investment that year. Sven plucked out some good players like Petrov (4 Million), Elano (8 million) and Corluka (7 million) and got City from a struggling prem team into European challengers.

It's not as if City were a small club before the Arab billionaires took over. They've always been a big club.

Oh calm down.

It's an age old adage that the league table never lies and if you have a look at the Championship table and then the table for League One you will note that Brighton and Hove Albion are TWENTY THREE places lower than Crystal Palace, and if they'd not had the ten point deduction they'd be a whole THIRTY FIVE places higher than us in the football league pyramid.

I would wager that their wage budget is significantly more than ours and the value of their squad overall would probably eclipse that of our team.

It isn't rocket science to recognise that, irrespective of off the field troubles, Palace are in a better position than us because they have been playing at a higher level than us for many years.

Also it is worth noting that the gulf between Crystal Palace and (newly promoted relegation fodder) Wolves is nowhere near as big as the divide between our little club and the ENORMOUS Aston Villa who haven't had to worry about possibly dropping out of the top flight for MANY MANY years.

Just because all of a sudden Crystal Palace are struggling with financial woe it doesn't mean that overnight they are going to turn into a team with players that aren't good enough to compete.

They're just a better team than we are right now. This will change in due course but anyone who thinks that their money worries have suddenly converted them into a club with LEAGUE ONE standard players is simply wrong.

We've gone through the shit and will be on the up in time, whereas their worries are only just beginning.

Chill out and take a look at the bigger picture.

OUR CLUB IS SAFE AND SECURE and to be honest I am happy with that at the moment. I want us to be winning a lot more than we have been but that will come in time.

Consider the days leading up to the Goldstone's sad demise... If someone offered you the chance to be playing in League One (ex second division formerly third division) whilst awaiting the completion of the city's new football stadium with a high profile young manager and financial constraints a thing of the past as opposed to the shit we had to suffer playing at the Priestfield worrying if we'd ever have a home or even a team to support YOU WOULD HAVE BITTEN THEIR HAND OFF.

I know it's frustrating that now we have secured the future of the club our on the pitch activity isn't up to scratch but we have had it SO MUCH WORSE.

I just find it really irritating that so many people seem to think that a new chairman and stadium on the way automatically means we should be competing at a higher level, alongside our fiercest rivals when in reality it just doesn't.

We could get relegated and it would be totally shit BUT we'd still have a club and a new stadium to look forward to.

We have been in situations far more dire than we are now but everybody wants to complain and moan that we should have more, be better and wipe the floor with all these less financially secure clubs.

These things take time and I for one am thankful EVERY DAY that I still have a club to support and get behind because it wasn't that long ago that the very existence of our proud club was seriously under threat.

We'll be alright. It will all work out. Just STOP WORRYING.

Please

Eagle eyed view of you...
Sadly, this sort of team spirit hasn't been on display all season. I was up in Sheffield just before Christmas for the game against United and it was so dire. The Palace fanzine's just come out with an "away day diary" from myself which I wrote a few weeks ago, and it's going to seem pretty out of place right now, since I made a few comments about how we lacked no edge, created no chances and never looked a threat. It's not just having a few good players or having Warnock which made us win last night. The last week or so could have completely deflated everybody and sent the club spiralling, but the supporters and Warnock have completely turned it around. The "blitz mentality" has led Warnock to firing up his players big time which has given them a passion which I hadn't seen before this season. Couple this with the supporters putting a massive effort in (I'm unsure of how many made the midweek trip to Newcastle but it was way over a thousand, who subsequently outsang the fabled "best fans in the land" constantly).

Administration is no good thing, and we'll definitely be worse for it. I'm trying not to think about it. But ultimately it means our backs are against the wall and we're all in it together fighting for our club's survival. That happened tonight, with the amazing effort by Warnock, the players and the fans meaning that we just got ourselves a crucial 500k in tv money. I never liked Warnock before he came to Palace, and I've had many disagreements with his decisions whilst he's been here, but he's completely the right guy for the job right now.

See, I've seen a couple of people say this now but surely that's not right is it? If they're in administration then doesn't it go straight to the administrators?

Al. I suggest we start the following threads on RNM...

"Where are we going to get 10,000 balloons from?"

"How do I get from East Croydon station to Selhurst Park?"

"Will there be any rival fans around waiting to bash me up?"

"What songs shall we sing?"

"Does anyone know the best type of thermos flask to buy?"

"Will I be able to buy a ticket in the Villa section if I pretend to talk with a Brummie accent?"

"Post here if you are going to the Villa game"

"Weather report live from Selhurst"

etc, etc, etczzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
