If other teams can break quickly and produce defence splitting passes, why can't we?

Time after time, and not just tonight, we pass the ball squarely across the back four, presumably looking for an opening, but most of the time it gets pushed forwards about twenty yards then comes back. Tonight Watford demonstrated, with devasting accuracy, the alternative- a quick break with the ball threaded between our two lumbering central defenders. Why can't we even try that?

Posted a thread about this earlier. Incredibly frustrating, can neither of our centre backs pass the ball properly?

because we have lost the ability to launch a quick counter attack and have to pussy foot it around at the back giving the opposition plenty of time to get back in numbers to defend

That's the kind of pass CMS used to run on to all the time at Peterboro no? Begs the question yet again: why don't we use him in that really effective way?

Brighton factually.....
Because we probe & probe & probe & probe until we hit an over hit pass or under hit a pass, but dont worry we can probe & probe & probe and one fine day we will play a team that has not done its homework on us.

Leg out of the bed
Every team that has come here, without exception, works very hard to get back and defend when they don't have the ball. Two banks of four usually, on the edge of the box (except, was it Brizzle, who resorted to a flat back SIX at some points :lolol: ), so we have to then try and pick the lock. And when we fail in this, the oppo launch quick forays upfield

Because we've had it trained out of us. Side to side, backwards but never seem to go forward at pace .lost count of the number of times we could have launched a quick counter attack. Only for it to go sideways by which time their defence had recovered. Bloody infuriating.

Because none of our players are arrogant arseholes who think they can change the game with a moment of guile.

Is the correct answer - poyet values possession over penetration (ooer)

Apparently, the whole squad is in training for the next series of Strictly! Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow! Side, together, side together! One step forward, three steps back etc!

Have to agree, tonight we looked as threatening as strawberry bleumange. Watford never looked troubled even when we played 4 "strikers" at the death. We lack any urgency when attacking, its as though the squad can only press forward if following a training pattern which losses any kind of momentum.
Thought Adam looked lost tonight. Great man to man marker but all out of shape when people run at him.
Lots to do in January

Without the quick quick, with the pace we play at it is possible the new sticker in January will be Peter Ward he could still play faster than this lot.

This has been happening pretty much since we played Leeds LAST season - our tactical inability to counter this is Gus's fault, no one else.
