I think you comparing the club's recent signings to shopping in Lidl is way out of line.

Vicente only came to Brighton because he was a deeply flawed person. Flawed or not he was ****ing quality and a joy to watch.

Simlarly Paddy McCourt has all the talent in the world. If he had the right attitude he'd be playing in the Premier League. He hasn't. That's why he's at Brighton. - Exactly no one else wanted him. But I do like him as a player, should be getting far more game time.

There were bargain buys in your "caviar"days too. Hoskins, Jara, Hammond etc etc -Granted and your missing a few others Bergkamp etc... Very few clubs only buy household names, we brought in Barnes, Bridcutt & Noone for next to nothing and they ended up Premier League players, the likes of O'Grady, Baldock & Toko wont.

No one else wanted Vicente either.

He only came to Brighton because he couldn't get a team in the Premier League or La Liga.

Young players are still coming with similar CVs to Barnes, Bridcutt and Noone.

Ince, and Chickesen came from lower divisions or after being released from EPL teams.

They just haven't been as successful (yet). It will always be something of a roulette game whether you sign a potential superstr or a dud, when you are looking for players in these places.

Again I don't think you can compare the transfer of McCourt to Vicente. Vicente has commanded vast transfer fees in the past, has played International football for Spain, was voted in the top ten footballers in the World several years before he joined us. Vicente had a pedigree almost unheard of for an Albion player hence the transfer made big waves in the media, I vaguely recall Talk Sport calling it the transfer of the 'Transfer Window'.

McCourt was released by relegated Barnsley.

True of course.

But Celtic are a pretty effing huge club. And many of their supporters were heartbroken when Paddy left.

If Paddy McCourt had the right attitude he'd be playing for a top 10 Premier League team.

Similarly if Vicente wasn't a flawed genius he'd never have played for Brighton either.

Paul Gascoigne played for Burnley and Boston Utd, Teddy Sheringham played for Southend, Peter Beardsley played for Hartlepool, Georgie Best played for Bournemouth and Fulham

The most talented players tend to end their careers with a cameo or two at smaller, unfashionable clubs.

Is there anyone left at the club who we can blame for anything that goes wrong? Maybe the ball boys or the mascots, oh, no one's had a go at the tea lady yet.

She was replaced by a cheaper, more efficient vending machine 5 months ago.

That is one reason why he didnt have the money and had to continually go cap in hand to wealthy fans becuase he didnt have the business accumen of TB.

As TB says look at the situation after the window closes we will be ok.

Dick may not have had the money but he knew how to liaise with the fans.

He'd be getting an identical, or worse, slating.
Just like he did when he was chairman and the team hit a bad patch.

It's not just the money. I remember threads galore about DK being too involved, too much the micro-manager of the playing side of things.

Not sure Mr Bloom is micro managing anything.

I have no beef with either, just both part of the clubs recent complex history.

Dick got things wrong, Tony is getting things wrong now.

The only measure is an apparently Premier League ready infrastructure about to get relegated into league one.

What Tony needs (I think) is better advice.

Sorry, but this is a bit daft.

To make the kind of money Tony Bloom has needs skill and business acumen. Dick Knight operated in an area where the potential rewards were not as vast but building up an advertising agency from scratch and then selling it for millions of pounds - he blew a lot of that on being an Albion supporter - to a major Madison Avenue company required huge business acumen too. As does keeping a small football club with few assets, no ground, vast overheads and small crowds alive for many years. Can we please stop rewriting facts and agree that both of them in their different ways have been pretty good at running businesses. (As was, it's painful to say, the chairman before DK.)

I don't remember anyone else stepping in to wrestle the club away from Archer. And no other chairman has made the fans feel more central to the club's ethos.

Business acumen is one thing but running a football club is another and right now Knight made a much better fist of things despite modest resources.

It's nothing short of a disgrace how the club have frittered away all the good feeling and feel good vibe of the new stadium. We may never have that buzz again and it will take a big turnaround for season ticket sales not to drop under 15k.

Knight made fantastic decisions for the club e.g. Martin Perry Vs Paul Barber. If things were going wrong he would come out and talk to fans, he certainly wouldn't have made **** up's like releasing the press release to sack Poyet the same time as he was live on BBC during the Copa America.

The appointment of Barber on a vast salary not forget has robbed the club of it's spirit, hence Knight's comments about Albion in the Community. The club has been heading for a car crash ever since Barber was appointed.

Dick Knight ran Brighton with the financial backing of Bloom anyway. DK always said the power would never be in one persons control but isn't that pretty much how his tenure was. Look at the sacking of Micky Adams. Wasn't the story that they met at the Little Chef to discuss things and then decided they better part company with him. Was the whole board there around the table at the time?

Yes, he did engage the fans but wasn't that out of necessity to get the club back to Brighton and then to get planning permission. He knows the power of advertising and a good marketing strategy.

As for decisions, Geoff Wood and Martin Hinshelwood spring to mind.

No thanks, I'd rather stick with Bloom.

He was guilty of being too loyal to staff already at the club such as the examples you made, but his other managerial appointments were excellent.

Adams, Taylor, Coppel, McGhee & Slade all had success or made a positive impact.
