I think the implication is that we're taking defeating them for granted.
Who is taking it for granted? Where are they doing it?

Ahh, probably it's loud mouthed twats on twitter being referred to. Most will know that's not representative of a support fanbase. Most will know that if you swim in sewers, expect to swallow shit

we'd all be going mental. There is a reason that Grimsby are in the quarters, they beat an average EPL side. Lets give them a bit of credit and treat them with respect. None of this beating teams like Grimsby or booking hotels at Wembley or canceling holidays in June. We are playing a team who are 17th in the 4th tier and enjoying the greatest time of their lives traveling 100's of miles to watch their club. Don't wind them up with #teamslikeGrimsby or similar but welcome them with open arms, feed them with the best pies in the land, allow them to sup our local ales, clap when they wave their blow up fish-

And then stuff them 5:0
Yeah, and there's also a reason why we're ecstatic at the draw, why you're ecstatic at the draw. We think we can beat them. Not much harm in writing that on a message board

This. Vast majority of us are delighted with the draw because it’s the easiest fixture we could have had, so gives us the best chance of progressing but also recognise how brilliantly Grimsby have done to get this far and what will happen if we’re complacent - Lord knows we know how to lose when we should win FFS.

Ironically the Charlton defeat might help us here - no way DeZ is going to allow any chickens to be counted.

I know xG is a bit Marmite, but I only use it in this instance to try to highlight that despite teams learning about how we play and trying to counter it - generally sitting off a bit and not pressing us as we clearly want - we are still getting through sides, breaking them down and creating very good goalscoring opportunities.

We've just not been doing the final, and most important, bit. We should have beaten both Palace and Fulham easily. As it turns out, I think Bournemouth gave us more problems than the other two combined and we were probably slightly fortunate to take all three points from that one.
Bozza not pointed at you at all in any way, but maybe it's because I am old and I really dont get this new fangled xG malarkey, but why do we bother with it in threads every week? it doesn't earn us or deduct any points, affect our league position, nor does xG get us into Europe or save us from the dreaded drop. It doesn't even show that we were the best or worse team on the day as you to refer to in your comments, or even affect whether we should have won or not. The only thing that really matters on the day is that we score more than we let in? No?

Keeping within the spirit, were you fly fishing?
Nah it was like 3 in the morning but we were directly opposite the ground - Blundell Park hotel I think it was called. Tramp had a go at us for waking him when we came back - we were like you’re in our hotel room mate 🤣 Also sky (camera men or whatever) were in the room next door and don’t think they appreciated us.

Firmly believing that we're going to prevail over Grimsby doesn't automatically make us the bigger team bad guys.

They've played really well. Respect due. But the Charlton chastening will help and we're at home this time.

Lightning won't strike twice in the same season.

No need to apologize for confidence.

Wembley beckons.

We'll win.

Of course that’s the only thing that matters.

But we were discussing whether teams had “worked us out”.

So ignore xG. I say nothing about recent games suggests we have been worked out, although teams have tried. In each game we have been the better side and created the better chances.

Of course it matters we didn’t score enough of those chances but, again, we’re not talking about that.

The fact that we have continued to create a lot of decent chances says, to me at least, that teams haven’t yet worked us out well enough to stop us as an attacking force.

That attacking force just needs to shoot a bit better.

Grimsby are into the last 8 on merit they have played and beaten

Southampton 1-2
Luton 3-0
Cambridge 1-2
Plymouth Argyle 5-0

we will be huge favourites an usual position when historically Brighton would have more likely been in Grimsby’s shoes

I thought that Stoke to a certain extent had worked us out as to the way we play out from the back, I dont remember the midfield, goalkeeper or defence being put under so much pressure by any team recently and that includes any top team such as Liverpool. I do agree though in the last couple of games our attacking ability has stuttered somewhat.

Cant switch off just because Grimsby are in a lower league- bearing in mind this is their chance to go to Wembley too and they will give it their all. Im just focusing on the fact that we have the quality and drive to win and will stick with that. Otherwise should be a really fun match!

Hello, I’m here. :)

I’ll be honest, Southampton haven’t covered themselves in glory as a club. Their fans seemed to assume victory was a foregone conclusion with whatever side they could be arsed to field, their fans couldn’t be bothered to come along and support their team in any kind of respectable number (I don’t think they even announced the attendance), and those that turned up made virtually no noise whatsoever.

Then, having lost, they have the audacity to bleat about VAR, refereeing decisions and our goalkeeper’s ‘cramp’ late in the game. Look, if a Premier League side cannot beat a not especially good League Two side, then it is their fault and no one else’s. We may have had luck on our side at times last night, but they had the benefit of £300m worth of players at their disposal versus our squad worth little more than £300k. Want to swap places, Saints fans? No, then shut up.

I recognise that Brighton is an entirely different proposition. You’re a fúcking good team and if Southampton beat us 99 times out of a hundred then you beat us 999/1,000, at the very least.

The odds of us beating you are impossibly small. For that to happen, it would take an implosion far bigger than Southampton’s. Red cards, penalties, own goals - the lot. And I just don’t see you doing that.

So, in short, I appreciate the OP’s sentiment, and I think it’s commendable that your fan base wants to avoid becoming all Billy Big Bollocks now you’ve got a shiny stadium and a brilliant team. I know you remember Priestfield, and Withdean.

But it’s different to Man Yoo fans belittling Brighton. On your day, you have the ability to go to to toe with United, and more. This has been proven many times over. It’s a relatively even battle these days.

Our run has been fantastic - we’ve beaten 5 teams in leagues above us to get this far, a record I believe. But I don’t think it’s unreasonable for Albion fans to recognise that drawing a team 16th in League Two in the quarter final of the FA Cup is a great opportunity to make the semi-final. It just is, and me and my fellow mariners denying it or getting upset at the notion would be naive and petty.

It would be absolutely incredible to see my team in an FA Cup semi-final, as my grandma and grandad did in 1939. I just don’t believe for a minute it will happen - at least not this season.

I just hope it’s a great day out; it will be a proud day for me and my brethren if nothing else. I know you will turn out and have the Amex bouncing at full capacity and make it the occasion it deserves to be for all concerned.

Yes indeed. Let's hope it's a great day out that lives long in the memories of those who get to be there.

May the best team on the day win. :)

Southampton losing to them is no great surprise, when you are at the bottom of the league hardly anything goes your way. You get the odd result not enough to keep you up, getting beat by a team a few divisions below is part of the course. As Brighton fans we’ve all been there and it’s painful.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I think you mean "par for the course".

It’s been about 2-3 posters tongue in cheek - the other 99% of posters are saying it’ll be tough etc. it’s just the 2-3 posters have started threads for a wind up. No need to defend it as ‘what we’re doing to Grimsby’ in my opinion.
Precisely. It's utter bollocks. For every Albion fan acting like Billy Big Bollocks over this tie, there are about 50 posting sanctimonious crap like the OP. It's worth avoiding the #BHAFC hashtag on Twitter unless you want to belittled by these pious cretins.

@Poojah gets it. The fact is Grimsby are 16/1 to beat us or 15/2 to qualify, and for a reason. We should win. We might not, but we should. I'm not apologising for getting excited about a probable (but not guaranteed) third semi-final of our entire history.
