Unelected prime minister.

Lies and deceipt from Mandelson and Campbell.

Stole £5billion a year from private sector pension funds.

Can we all stop with this unelected Prime Minister nonsense. That is the system we live under we vote for MPs who are part of a Party. Those parties choose their own leader. That person may well be the Prime Minister. If you want to complain that Brown was unelected, therefore ignoring our parliamentary system, you can argue that Cameron is also unelected as the Lib Dem voters did not vote for him yet have enabled him to become PM.

I will concede the other two points though.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Cameron would be the "elected" Prime Minister regardless, as his party won the election. The question is: a (house) minority or majority leader?!? Brown or a replacement would have been un-elected as Labour "lost" the election in terms of seats, and lest we forget, proportion of the vote.

Too far from the sun
They have knackered my attempts to save for my retirement by (1) making sure that my personal pension plan returns less by killing off tax reliefs and (2) getting Lloyds TSB to take over HBOS - my own Lloyds TSB shares then plunged in value, together with those held by my (and doubtless many other) pension scheme. They have also made sure that my county council had to stop school meals for my kids by starving them of central funding which they moved on to their mates up north and in Scotland. Anyone who is a council tax payer in West Sussex has paid DEARLY for the last Labout administration

The rise of the unions after Maggie had stamped them nearly out.

Yes, it's not been all bad under Labour

And where's all this high tax business come from? The OECD has only this week published a report that said a) UK employees have a lower tax burden than the EU average and b) the average tax burden in the UK fell last year

Tax : Average tax burden on workers’ earnings fell in most OECD countries last year

There's plenty that's wrong with the Labour government, but high taxes aren't one of them.

We can certainly expect to see the tax burden go up under the Tory/LD coalition.

just by them sending bullshit levels through the roof is enough for me. politics is a dirty game but they elevated it to an art form. i dont mind my toady politicians like soames and a lot of tories you know where you stand yes they are posh cun ts but quelle surprise.

when harman says how great diversity is then gets her kids the f*** out of dodge the first chance she gets, and countless other examples of letting down the people they claim to represent is just so dispiriting.

Sorry, but I can't find a single thing in this thread that the Tories wouldn't have done too, and probably much worse.

My wallet, my pension and my bank account? This is just the politics of "how much better off am I?"...

It would have been just as bad if not worse under the tories, as they have always been the party of privilege and corporate greed. Sorry, I meant to say it WILL be as bad if not worse under this new Etonian regime.

"f***ed, we are," said Yoda.

You clearly don't read the small print when you invest in the stock market then?

"The value of shares can go down as well as up".

I dumped my PEP many many years ago when I realised that I wasn't making any money out of it, but the stockbrokers and bankers kept creaming their share off in units as a charge for 'running' the fund. Frankly I could have got a better return by keeping it in a building society.

The "chav" society is probably only the best way I can describe what I think is the worst thing that has happened under Labour. A sort of underclass that I believe has blossomed and flourished under this government.

They live of the state, drink alcohol all day long, have things like dangerous dogs, cause utter terror to their neighbours. Individuals whom seem to have zero respect nor thought for any other person or anything. The C4 programme Shameless is a great example of this.

The guilty in the attached are a very extreme example of what I am talking about but I trust you catch my drift.

BBC News - Three guilty of Arlesey lagoon 'slave' murder

The left despise Thatcher for as they perceive Thatcher as creating selfish, greedy, individualistic, money obsessed people. I would a million times more have Thatcher's sort of people whom would never bother me living next door to me, than the sort of underclass whom have positively thrived under New Labour.

Just ever so slightly misleading - that report only refers to direct taxation, which of course was planned to increase in the coming year with both the National Insurance Rise and the 50% tax band and the freezing of thresholds.

It doesnt refer to the myriad of indirect taxes introduced and increased by the Labour Party - indirect taxes of course which hit the poorest in society hardest. Good old Socialist policies.

So if Brown/Labour was such a poor persons saviour , why did he/they introduce a non means tested heating allowance last time?????????? other than to win votes????????
My mate earns and works the same hours as me but gets this fuel allowance because of his age????????
Yes some people need this help and I wouldnt begrudge them it, but most other benefits are tested, so why not that???????

OK, let's look at indirect taxes and at VAT rates across Europe. Only two countries in the EU have a lower standard tax rate than the UK (Cyprus and Luxembourg). On top of that, Britain has zero-VAT on food, children's clothes, books and newspapers - which many countries don't have.

Compared to most countries, we really have a low tax rate regime.

Sorry, you are right that Cameron is the elected PM. I got carried away and ignored the facts.

However if Brown had stayed as PM as part of a coalition he would also be the elected PM. This is our system and however the PM ends up being there it does mean he has been elected. Proportion of the vote means nothing, the number of seats is the only thing that matters. That is whether they are achieved through a coalition of parties or by a single party. I am also not saying that Brown should have stayed as PM (or any Labour leader), or that it would have been morally correct for Labour to govern, or that I think the current electoral system is correct. Just that under our system that is how PMs are elected.

An illegal war. The Big Brother state. The laws that govern every aspect of our lives; the petty bureaucracies; the casual regard for civil liberties, so that even taking photos in London streets can be regarded as a terrorist offence; the Digital Economy Act.

That will do for starters.

But have those things affected YOU personally ? Clearly most of those things have happened, and quite appalling some of them are too, but other than reading about them, have they actually affected your life ? Have you been stopped for taking photos or just read about it ?

Just curious, because I think that was the question.

The university fee's that have put me in £18,000 worth of debt at 23 years old and the failed economy that has made it virtually impossible for me to find one of the graduate jobs that young people were told they 'would walk into' after graduating. Labour has massively failed young people and should be ashamed.

I don't believe its so much a case of what bad effect they have had while in power, more so the effect they will have left behind for the Tories to deal with.

I'll tell you what Labour did..............they butt f*cked us big time. It's only reading this thread that has highlighted what the past 13 years or so have given us under a Labour leadership. Any are we any better off for it, I certainly don't think so.
