If I were Gus this is how I'd go about this summer....

1. Clear out fringe players
I'd clear out the fringe players and also ones that are perhaps not able to take us forward. Would also raise some funds for new players.

Painter - £250k
Harley - £200k
Sparrow - £250k
Dicker - £250k
Hoskins - £300k
Bergkamp - £300k
Poke - £50k
Gonzalez - out of contract
Ankergren - out of contract

Raises around £1.6m

This would leave us with a first team squad of

KEEPERS
Brezovan

CENTRE BACKS
Greer
Dunk
El Abd
Elphick

FULL BACKS
Calderon
Hall

CENTRE MID
Bridcutt
Navarro
Caskey
Vicente
Vincelot

WINGERS
Buckley
Lua Lua
Noone

STRIKERS
CMS
Barnes
Agdestein

2. Invest in:

1. A new first choice goal keeper
2. Joe Mattock, he has done superbly and is familiar with how Gus likes to play.
3. A new first choice right back, as much as I love Calde when he's going forward his defending at this level is a little shaky. Definitely keep him around as backup though. Ideally someone who could also cover at Centre Back.
4. A big, strong and powerful box to box midfielder to partner Bridcutt
5. A big, strong, powerful striker to spearhead the attack either with CMS or as a loan striker.

3. I'd then look to have the team line up something like this:

4-2-3-1

................. New Keeper ..................

New RB .... Dunk ..... Greer .... Mattock

........... New CM .... Bridcutt ............

Buckley ......... Vicente ......... Lua Lua

.................. New Striker ..................

Bench: Brezovan, Vincelot, Caskey, Noone, CMS

or

4-4-2

................. New Keeper ..................

New RB .... Dunk ..... Greer .... Mattock

........... New CM .... Bridcutt ............

Lua Lua .............................. Vicente

............. New Striker ... CMS ............

Bench: Brezovan, Vincelot, Buckley, Caskey, Barnes

Agree with your players out but some are way over priced,

Agree with players we need in but im happy with Calderon as right back dont need to rush buy,

We should def get Mattock on a free as hes out of contract,

As for formation it depends on players we have got, but for the 442 id have Buckley in for Lualua

MOst of that lot are out of contract so wont get a penny.
The only ones worth any money there is Hoskins and maybe a bit for Harley.

Be lucky to get 500k for both.

This isn't football manager. I doubt you'll get anywhere near that for those players. But I think everyone can agree where the weaknesses are.

Who on earth would pay that money for those players? £300k for Berkamp :lol: Who would pay that for Harley and take on his £8k pw wages :lol: I do wonder what planet some of our fans live on when it comes to finances and business.

Controversially maybe I wouldn't poo poo decent bids for Noone and Dunk not for same reasons but reckon we could invest the £££ better elsewhere

I'd take any bids north of 1m for Noone and north of 2m for Dunk as long as I would be able to reinvest it.

The other players you mention will be going to L1 clubs for peanuts.

If Cardiff come back with the same offer as in Jan then bite their hands off. Also anything over £3m for Dunk is worth having too. Reinvest it all in areas that need strengthening. We have plenty of cover at CB and on the wing.

I don't think the OP is very far off here in terms of who to keep and new acquisitions.

I don't think we'll get that money for many of those leaving. Personally, I would keep Dicker too.

I think the goalie should be an experienced player, like Harper. I wonder if Gus will unearth an 'unknown' striker possibly South American, either as the 'main' signing or as a backup.

I agree with all the players you want to realease but I think the most attacking formation we can hope for next season will be playing just 1DM and 2 wingers and 1 striker

Something like...

--------------New GK------------------

Calderon----Greer---Dunk---Mattock

----------------Bridcutt----------------

Buckley---New CM---Vicente--LuaLua

-----------------New ST-----------------

Bench: Brezovan, CMS, Vincelot, Caskey, Navarro

If I were Gus this summer:

I'd accept that Doyle, Fletcher and Jarvis and going to want to stay in the Prem, and try to get best money for them.

I'd try to retain Henry and Kightly, and hopefully Stearman.

What?

I can remember the last unknown South Americans Gus brought in...

I will never forget the cheeky penalty that Cristian Baz scored, nor my shock when Agustin Battipiedi started away at Southampton :D

without repeating some of the other comments I think a 4-4-2 line-up is more in line with Gus's intentions when we began this season but didn't have the personnel available to play it

like most I suspect, I've been playing the "who will he let go" game. I think we will all be surprised to some degree either by some of those who leave or (more likely) some of those who stay
