He’s still a spare sandwich in a Premier League picnic of talented managers at the moment having played stalking horse to several appointments this summer. Personally, I think he should take the next mid-level EPL vacancy that he’s offered or step right away from English football all together. Because trying to stay relevant in the sports press without actually doing anything while everyone around you is moving on, is beginning to look a bit weird and a little narcissistic imo.

Don’t care where he ends up as long as it’s not here.

Why are we even still talking about him anyway? Time to dismiss him from our radar as he dismissed us.
We're still talking about him because he played a part in our history.
Everyone has an opinion, we don't just have threads about the people we like.

My view is that he deserves some respect, but he's not the right person to ever return to manage our club.
I think his reputation has become bigger than his ability.
Saying that, I was sorry when Potter left us, but I have preferred watching us under RDZ and FH.

The alleged £600,000 (after deductions) from Chelsea every month must surely be coming to an end soon?

Thankfully it appears he’s out of the frame for the England job, but I’d expect him to pop up at some point, possibly when Wolves make a change, I think it has to be an EPL job, not sure he’d now be cut out for the muck and bullets trying to get a club out of the Championship.

Didn’t he come to some sort of agreement with Chelsea so it was significantly less?
(Might have seen it in The Athletic).

West Ham most obvious choice for me.

Exactly.

The whole ‘journey’ is very real, without Hughton etc., we wouldn’t have got to Potter, and without Potters work we wouldn’t have got to RdZ and Europe.

Potter has been integral to our recent success.

If you believe the reports, it’s next month. Although it’s 800K gross, so that’s a mere 425K net. This tallies with other reports that he’s pocketing 10m over 2 years for only 6 months work.

I doubt his over inflated, chelsea funded ego would let him take a mid level prem team. He couldn't handed a few boos at the Amex, imagine him at Everton or Saints or even West Ham where they like a good boo! The guy is too thin skinned FACT!

None of Potter and Hurzeler are going to treat 20 people like they don't exist. They indeed don't have the "confidence" to treat people like Chelsea does. That is correct. Remains to be seen how the "confidence" to ignore large parts of your squad will work out in the end.

I see you're already in the Liberty cap season down in the UK. Yeah he'll be making Tiktok reels with Carragher and Neville before uprooting his family to manage the insolvent Championship side that is Everton for three months until hell' get sacked for not being able to keep Seamus Coleman & the likes in the Premier League. He's known to be wild like that.
I was thinking more studio Pundit work rather than having breakfast with Gary Neville and Jill Scott

Yeah he'd definitely have thicker skin if he'd only kneel in front of the booing Brighton supporters rather than questioning it.

That's bollocks. Both BHA ad Chelsea have proven youth accademies.
Chelsea might have a youth academy but there’s little in the way of a pathway.

It was the right move at the right time for him, it seemed ideally suited to him but then he found out that Boehly actually wasn't so much about the long term and wanted a new manager brought in. Or Potter just wasn't strong enough to put his foot down, or the conditions weren't right for him to do so at that time. Whatever happened - he wasn't wrong for taking the job. I don't particularly like him and I never want to see him back at the Albion, other than bringing whatever team he is managing and getting a pasting, but the truth was it was absolutely the right thing for him to do at the time he made the jump. And PBOBE made it clear that Chelsea behaved properly when approaching us for him, so I have no animosity about it at all. Other than taking Bruno too, that hurt (but we don't need to re-litigate that either!).
A very good post. Sometimes though at work you know deep down if you need a bit more experience before taking the next step up and as he was just making good progress with the Albion I was convinced he would move, but not say for another year or so before he had really proved himself in the Premier League. Can’t say I blame him though for taking the opportunity when it arose and like you, don’t want to see him back at The Amex in the home dugout.

Southampton is my bet. Martin’s not going to last very long and they’re already playing second season Potterball, albeit with worse players. Won’t get the blame when they go down and should bring them straight back up,

Commutable from Hove if he wants and gets to hook back up with Lallana.

I know it’s not the majority opinion on here but I feel sorry for him the way the Chelsea situation turned out. The way he built his career has been methodical and deliberate. I think Boehly fed him a load of crap about long term strategy and planning and he believed it. All that hard work to build his reputation undone in a few months.

If Potter was our manager still and they sacked Maresca and approached him I didn’t think he would consider it in a million years given what we all know now. He was misled and has paid a high price.

Correction, he was paid a high price.

Yes, the Chelsea failure hasn’t done him favours career wise, in terms of going into a top job.

But he has made millionaire retirement level money just in that brief job, and has collected the cheques every month as compensation. He’s coming back now because his payoff is ending, and will easily go into a job equal to or higher in pay and status as when he left us.

Any way we spin it, he was better off leaving. He can go onto a West Ham, Wolves, Crystal Palace type job now on still very good money with no expectations to win anything, and rebuild his reputation.

He’s not a victim here and has played the game just like anyone would.

So you think that once you've chosen your 25 man squad, you should get the other 20 highly paid, disgruntled and unmotivated players to hang around the squad that you're trying to focus on and motivate, all day every day ?

Given the situation, it was the only sensible thing for Maresca to do

Any decent club would have the infrastructure in place to deal with the “discarded” players because with such numbers it is inevitable. The head Coach, manager, whatever should be civil, etc but should not be required to spend his precious time in accommodating them. There should be others for that.

But then Chelsea isn’t a decent club.

Maybe sensible from your way of seeing things but its not sensible from a "treat people like humans"-point of view.

Trevor Chalobah playing for the club since he was eight getting banned from the training ground so they can fit in more toy soldiers. Imagine us doing that to Solly or Dunk.

Good for Chelsea that they're doing sensible shit, hope we never will.

Just highlights the issues of trying to efficiently manage a team when all around you is a complete lack of plan and gross incompetence. Something Albion managers never have to deal with
