Honestly I think there would be less than 1% of fans who would do this. There would be an almighty effort by the club pre-season to recognise the situation, the media team would go into overdrive. GP would be giving out free meals to the homeless, he'd an hour long interview where he talks openly and honestly about his mistakes, the tide would turn, we'd all galvanise after our first win and we'd move on.

But then again this is never ever going to happen. Ever.

Bloom hasn't made a positive decision to appoint yet, but he may have ruled some out and been turned down by others.

It's his club, his money and his data at the end of the day. However, surely one of the data points, although a nebulous one, must be customer / fan satisfaction and experience. The only target CH was given was to keep the Albion up, which he did, but he went because he'd lost the fans with boring football and poor results.

So, for all we know, GP has already been considered and rejected. I assume you support that if true?

I think this also comes into the motivation factor, we then lost, Again against Villa, with a fully fit squad. Signs and stats suggest that RDZ would have rectified this with a win, I think a lot of this is glossed over to the extreme, his motivational skills, were poor.

Two polar opposites I would suggest. You can equally motivate someone with a quiet encouraging word rather than the full blown hair dryer approach, and vice versa.

Years ago I was chatting with a Liverpool supporting friend of mine. Despite the wonderful public and media personna of Bill Shankly my friend said it was Bob Paisley who was the tactical genius behind the scenes. And so it proved. Paisley, the quiet, tea drinking, boot room boy led Liverpool to their greatest ever successes. He shied away from the limelight, never sought publicity, the complete opposite to Shanks. Two different approaches, same result.

This whole thread is based upon the hypothetical scenario of Potter being re-appointed and, as Potter is favourite with the bookies to be re-appointed, it is understandable that some fans feel that he will be returning back to Brighton.

We watched 3 years of slow, dull football, supplement by the odd great win, loads of draws and ridiculous runs of games without a win. And then, briefly, with a star- stuffed team it all clicked. And then he f***ed off.

I really haven't got the motivation to restart that project so soon after we were thinking about a 2nd European adventure, but blew it with a couple of duff transfer windows.

I can't think of a more underwhelming appointment right now.

If we were interested in getting Potter back, with him apparently still living in Brighton/hove and he accepted wouldn't it be announced by now. It took him less then 48 hours to jump ship to Chelsea.

Tony Bloom is a business man and planned for that eventuality which is what every dynamic business must do.

With a much better medical team, good young players returning from loan, our current first team youngsters maturing more, experience working within the setup already gained and 8 less European games next season there is no reason Potter should not finish a fair bit higher than we did this season.
