It's more the thought of dealing with a Final loss that concerns me.

Oddly, the thought of a defeat in the final doesn’t bother me nearly so much. This will be England’s fourth major semi-final in my lifetime and, thus far, we’ve lost the lot. I just want to see us in a final. Actually going on to win the thing hasn’t even registered yet.

This. They managed to waste 10 minutes of time in the last game they played just play-acting and cheating. I couldn't
handle being 2-1 down to them in the final with 10 minutes to go.

I can't believe that people still complain about Italy being shithouses.
They invented it and made it into an artform.

Personally I love them for it. Unashamedly pushing the limits to sneak any and every advantage they can.

The emotion and pressure for the final - I'd be surprised if there is any expectation other than blind hope we'll win that.

Oh yes indeed. Although I've been absolutely delighted with our progress (and the last two performances) and feel we've got a chance of winning the whole thing I can and have rationalised it as follows:

Lose to Germany - Disappointing, but well we always lose to them and have done in every knockout game since 1966.
Lose to Ukraine - More disappointing than losing to Germany, but typical England: do the hard work and then lose to a much lower-ranked team!
Lose to Denmark - Well we were expecting a hard game, they did beat us in the Euro league and at least we reached the semi-final. And they ARE everybody's favourite 2nd team because of Eriksson. I shall be supporting them in the final.
Lose to Italy (after they've scored early and then pulled every spoiler trick in the book). ****ING NO WAY! AAAAGGGGGH! JEEZ! THERE SHOULD BE A LAW AGAINST IT! *Aneurysm*

If we do have to lose to Italy frankly I'd rather they stuffed us 3-0 and were easily the better side.
