I do…..and I do read the thread……I am genuinely struggling with performances being a primary reason though. Anyone who follows a football team knows there are peaks and troughs in that respect. I also go to non-league and women’s football and enjoy it just as much

It’s odd, going to Gillingham every fortnight I wasn’t expecting anything, I just went and didn’t carry results whatever the outcome

Is it that we expect more these days being in the premier league that makes it different?

We're fast approaching the end of the 5th season of trough after a monumental peak.

With absolutely no rational sign of that changing in season 6.

Goals as much as performances.

There's absolutely nothing like that feeling of leaping up, punching the air or grabbing your mate and then the whole ground breaking out in song while the away end looks downcast. It's special because it doesn't happen too often (I can't stand basketball or tennis for this reason) but this season it's happened 10 times in 13 home games, two of those in a game virtually no one was at. And, when it does, my instant reaction now is "VAR will be chalking that off" rather than "get in there".

Really don’t know……….today is a good example. Fully expecting a comprehensive defeat and won’t be on here threatening to give up my ST if and when it happens  It’s definitely all gone flat this season - probably the earliest since we got promoted - on and off the pitch but all things considered things ain’t so bad. I completely get the financial reasons, and those who have found other things to do without games to go to, and the constant drip-drip of pettiness we put up with - just not form so much. Suspect for many not renewing it’s the straw that’s breaking the camel’s back for now.

The more I think about this thread the weirder it becomes. It’s like a what are you lot moaning at just imagine if we won at home it would be great. We don’t win at home, I know but just imagine the atmosphere if we did

Did this get posted after the Friday team brief ???

That depends on your expectations I guess……personally wouldn’t describe it as 5 seasons of trough.

Sure we've not crashed from the top of the peak straight down to the bottom of the trough.

But all the indicators point to The Honourable Chris Hughton has been replaced by an equally honourable Chris Hughton-lite.

While all above him are doing their very best to ignore the elephant in the room and all below are just going through the motions.

Nothing is going to change anytime soon.

I write that thinking we have a better chance of winning today than any other game recently.
But comfortable in the thinking if IF that were to happen it would be the last win of the season!

Likewise will be going, not expecting much but also aware we can and have beaten most in this league.

I am not going to let it ruin my weekend if we lose and all I’m asking for is effort for the full 90 minutes

With Gillingham it was the hard core support who would go whatever was happening in whatever league we were in. With 30k fans in a stadium there are going to be people at one end who still have that perspective and at the other end people who will chuck it in when we have a bad run of results.

For myself I am not expecting results just a few more moments to get me on my feet at the Amex, they have been few and far between for some time but re-set again today with the hope we can see something special

Absolutely. I'm not entitled enough to get depressed if we lose to Liverpool, so long as we actually turn up. Not another Burnley please.

Imho it’s because it’s gone on for circa 3.5 years under both CH and GP. That’s a long trough of a dearth of home wins, a long chunk of a home supporters life.

It’s attritional. Optimistic kids go to games with their parents excited to see Albion goals and hopefully Albion wins, then nothing. The same effect on many worldly-wise adults.

Not necessarily wholly an anti CH/GP comment as the odds are stacked against clubs with our budget. But our home wins record since November 2018 must shirley be the worst of EPL ever presents.

Well if anyone needs a laugh have a read of Barber's programme notes patting Graham Potter on the back because it's his 10 goals at home all season that are the reason 90% of STH haven't cancelled their Direct Debits.

Because I'm a nerd, I looked it up, 01 Nov 2018 to today.

You are correct, we are bottom of the ever presents which is 15th of 15. 11 sides haven't been ever present within that table. So there may well be 11 sides with a worse record but they were obviously relegated or not in the division in 2018.

Our home record is:
P65 W15 D25 L25 F63 A87. Win % = 23%

In that time we've lost less games at home than both Palace and Burnley. We are considerable adrift on wins, Burnley above us have won 20 at home in that time compared to our 15, Palace 21, Saints and Newcastle 24 each.

These two sites are very good at looking at tables between dates:

Thank you.

I love stats too.

It was on my list of things to do one day :lolol:

Regarding home wins, it just seemed obvious. Burnley for example had gritty runs of beating almost anyone at home, 6 yard box winners from centre backs or Wood.

The positive spin on it is that only 15 teams have been ever present in that time. We might be 15th, but we are ever present and will in all likelihood be there again.

I genuinely admire your always positive Albion thinking

Football supporting’s my one undoing. I ride an emotional rollercoaster from Potter’s a deity, to (on a losing match day) being sick to the core of it all. It’s me.

Nah you just have to remember he's nowhere near the quality of manager, some on here would have you believe.
But fortunately for him he's nowhere new as bad as others will tell you.
