But they do....because the vast majority will comply with them and not try to selfishly game the system. Compare with, say, drink driving laws or speed limits.......they don't prevent drunk driving or speeding happening, but the majority don't abuse them or find ways round them.

Completely agree, bit like the initial resistance to 20mph speed limits. Sure, people are going over 20, but rarely over 30. When they were 30, people would push 35 - 40mph. 20mph speed limits have proven to make our residential roads safer. Not everyone obeys of course, but the majority do, even if they do 25mph, it's a safer environment.

Not everyone has photo ID or if they do it's their passport which you do want to just carry around with you on a day to day basis. You can get by in life fairly well without it, if you do not drive or travel abroad. There is a presumption of guilt with this inference. As has been pointed out the truly motivated will still be able to scam their way around this requirements.

If I have a traceable ticket on my phone in addition to my covid status (which I fully understand and agree with) I fail to see why I should have to jump through yet another hoop to prove my identity just to watch a football game. I will, because I'm not going to cut my nose off to spite my face, but it seems like an unnecessary imposition. If covid passports are introduced at nightclubs will they require photo ID too?

Plus if you cut your nose off, you'll have to get some new ID.

How many scammers are we expecting? we have 23K season tickets, who knows how many MyAlbion + members and general sale ticket holders who have to buy online and hand over some of their data to the club.

It seems like a sledgehammer to crack a walnut

Whilst I don't disagree with your point that there are people with whom photo ID is a foreign concept and they should not be punished as such, I am sure the club would work to find a solution with that individual. Might even be as simple as they get a club produced lanyard with their name and face on. The club are absolutely not going to turn people away if they genuinely are unable to provide the things needed as part of the terms of entry. They will instead find a working solution, rather than bin the rule.

A nightclub is a terrible example. I have never been to a club where I haven't had to provide a form of photo ID to gain entry.

it simply proves that the Covid Pass belongs to the person who is attending the game. Nothing sinister.

I suppose the balance is, have no large crowd events v restrictions and close monitoring of every person in a large crowd in case of a mini outbreak.

If you have a super-spreeder at an event, then I assume you need to very quickly identify exactly who was around that person, and you can't do that if you haven't confirmed everyone's identity. Does seem heavy handed, but the flip side is, a large crowd event is being allowed to go ahead when we are still in a 3rd wave.

If I'm not required to show ID, I could just let someone borrow my phone...

Agreed - and actually most night clubs (certainly Dance night clubs) in London at least are requiring proof of negative covid test OR double jab status at the moment.

If I only had a passport, I'd take a pic of the photo page using my phone. Sorted.

The ID is only to prove that you are the owner of the Covid Pass. You don't need to show ID when accessing the ground using your e-ticket.

You're obviously a younger person than me! Back in 1991, your mate's older brother's paper driver's license and secret agent style remember all the info. then run the roulette of the bouncer's questions 'what's your post code?''how old are you then?''when did you pass your test?'...Can't think I was asked for photo ID to well into the 00s when in all honesty it would have been taking the piss to ask for my ID to confirm my age!!

during sixth form I did a roaring trade in fake id's/photocopied passports which had the digits of the year of birth swapped around.

tempted to get this business back up and running now.

hahaha I'm a tad younger than you but I still would say my best clubbing days are now behind me. About 5/6 years ago, every club in Brighton seemed to introduce a scanner that they'd put your ID in to gain entry. Times of fooling a bloke on the door are well and truly behind us I'm afraid

If that's allowed I'd be ok with that in practical terms. I still object to the need for photo ID in principle though.

Well I've used that method to verify my age and ID with an on-line gambling site, so I'd be surprised if the club, or more importantly any steward performing a cursory check at the barrier, will have any issue. You could always contact the club to check.
