It’s in my dna, I’m hooked to melodies and harmoniew, so Reaper still does it for me. Similarly lots of The Who, Stones and Hawkwind tick my boxes, the acceptable side of rock.

(The Hungry Years would’ve been a living hell for me).
And cowbell? 😀

If we are talking icon anthems - memories of my Mum singing this at the top of her voice along to the vinyl and getting us kids to join in - it was definitely a family anthem for us

I got thrown out of music class at Steyning grammar school, and marched to the headmaster for a right proper bollocking for playiong this at school. ( 1982, I was 11, we'd been asked to bring in a record/song that influenced us musically and explain why )

I managed to talk my way out of trouble by convincing the Head that our teacher dropped the stylus on the wrong track

I soaked up the adulation of my class mates all week . . . Then, reality bit . . . . A big girly swot Katy in our class, told her mum . . . We were neighbours in the early 70's . . .as luck would have it her mum and my mum bumped into each other as well later that week . . . Uh oh

. . . I don't think my mum believed my story, but she was trying not to laugh. . . . The bollocking was for borrowing her record without asking. I was guilty. Lesson learnt

First performed at Carnegie Hall in 1969.

Stunning song, along with The Boxer.

I fell in love with their music from ‘borrowing’ my older brother’s Simon & Garfunkel greatest hits vinyl.
