Whether you are an Ian man or an Iain man there can be no doubt of the contribution Ian/Iains have made to society both here in the UK and worldwide. The world without Ian/Iains would be a much poorer and less colourful place.

However who is your favourite Ian/Iain?

Too many notable exceptions. Dury, McKellen, McEwan, Paisley, neither of the Deep Purple Ians, Gillan or Paice.

Woosnam. Purely for admitting that during golf tournaments he could never just go to bed after a round like a sensible athlete and just stare at the hotel room ceiling. He always wanted to go to the Bar for the evening. Don't know why but those words have stuck with me...

And downed that pint of Guinness in one when we won the Ryder Cup. Legend!

Holm - When I worked for a bank many years back I actually knighted him (I had to change his title on the system to Sir from Mr when he got one in the Queens Birthday honours)

You have competition.

Although we are so rare that in recent years very few have been born in England. One year had none.

I would vote Beefy for pure sporting Godness and amusing off field daftness (my account was hacked). But much as I love him, he's an utter BELL politically.

Woosnam is a proper golf and drinking legend so my vote would go to him but.....

The Ryder Cup is but a few days away and The Ryder Cup means one thing. IAN Poulter.

Golf isn't my favourite, but the Miracle of Medinah is up there as one of the most amazing sporting events of all time. And this was the defining moment.

So I vote Poults.

Special mention for unsung cricket hero IAN Bell as well. King of the late cut and a beautiful player to watch.
