So sad to hear that one half of the most effective and entertaining strike forces we ever had has passed. RIP Spider - you made a lot of Brighton fans very, very happy and left a lot of great memories.
RIP Spider - him and Wardy were the strike partnership when I started going regularly to the Goldstone in 77/78 so he will always be a key part of my Albion memories.
Just before my time but obviously seen some footage and heard all the wonderful stories about what a brilliant player he was. Condolences to his family and many friends. Raising a cuppa in his memory now, and will formally mark his passing before Villa on Sunday obviously. RIP Spider, you were very much the man.
Very sad news, my team from those halcyon days under first, the real Peter Taylor, not the ‘ *alace imposter’ then followed by the Mullers, those were the days… Grummit Tiler, Wilson, Machin, Rollings, Burnett, Towner, Ward, Mellor Piper, O’Sully…what a team we had then eh, with the subsequent additions of Sir Nobby, Phil Beal, Joe Kinnear, Gerry Fell, Sammy Morgan, and others who are missing from my list but never forgotten, puts into perspective our recent drop in form. RIP Spider.
Oh no! Never watched him but heard so much about him and Wardy from my Dad over the years, he absolutely loved him. Got to phone and tell him now, he’s going to be so upset. So sad.
Should his family see these tributes to him, thankyou for loaning him to us for 90 minutes on countless Saturday afternoons. Many of my adrenalin rushes were at the time of him and Wardy, making football look easy and enjoyable.
