Mick McCarthy was pretty funny as well.

I sat next to McCarthy on the flight home from USA world cup in 1994, was a larf a minute all the way home trust me. I know he does not always come across great in interviews but he was legend that day. Ray parlour was sitting in front of us too and he was a good bloke. We talked a lot about the albion and palace rivalry, something that Parlour knew of through Wrighty

Met McCarthy the other week at Westerham. True gentleman. Had a chat with him about Elliott Bennett, who is a top lad according to Mick, and how Wolves were doing. As for Wrighty, weren't we going to sign him and Chris Cattlin didn't turn up? I'm sure I heard something like that. Might have been garbage.

He was on sunday extra a few weeks back saying that he doesn't want to be known as the guy who speaks his mind in interviews, he wants to try and not be so him. Doesn't seem to have stopped.

His argument about us not moving/splitting the league to accommodate the world cup. He spoke purely from the epl's point of view*, acting as if the world cup should accommodate our league, because it's the world's competition and we're part of the world. Surely, if we're just talking from the point of view of one country's league, they should be moving to accommodate the world cup, since the world cup is for the world, 32(?) countries are involved in it not just one, so it's rude for us to demand they move?

*I know, it's not just the EPL that would be affected, but Holloway isn't talking from the point of view of all the european leagues, he is talking about his own.

Of course he can't talk for other leagues but most northern hemisphere countries play there leagues through the winter period. The point is that in the EPL and other major leagues, domestic football would have to stop due to international call ups.

Ian Wright had a trial with us when he was in his teens and wasn't deemed to be upto spec. He probably had trials with a number of league clubs and no one wanted him. He then went to non-league football and wasn't signed by Palarse until he was 22.
