they're building a giant pole with a round object going up and down it and you think the gay part is that it's pink?!

:lolol:

The whole project is full of phallic and EROTIC imagery.

Apparently the planning permission for the project has expired...

Really, that’s a shame but I suspect it may have been credit crunched anyway?

What is it with Brighton, projects never seem to materialise. I think Brighton’s skyline is crying out for an iconic building but will one ever make it past planning?

Didn't they actually do some work on the foundations though, I thought that planning permission only expired if you didn't do anything within the 5 years (or whatever it is)?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You're probably right - I have no knowledge of actual planning permission rules.

Perhaps I’m being a little unfair on the planning department in Brighton as I guess the reason most of these projects get shelved is because they are not in keeping with the architecture of Brighton.

Where I live they will give planning permission to almost any building and the only issue in getting them built is funding. Here is a list of planned projects in Croydon, pre-recession only a few are actually going ahead. Could anyone see any of these projects in Brighton?

With respect, I for one am not completely devastated that Brighton won't be getting turned into Croydon to be honest.

Completely agree, it would be sacrilege if Brighton had half the concrete monstrosities Croydon has but surely there is some middle ground? A few well placed and well thought out buildings could add a lot to the city, in the same way the imposing yet iconic Spinnaker Tower does in Portsmouth.

Couldn't the Albion build it in one of the corners at the Amex and sell the spaces as 1901 Platinum Extra?
