i would like to purchase a fairly cheap satnav...any handy hints please

would like to buy a satnav as my job now entails me driving around the midlands quite a bit. any handy hints most welcome.
p.s. no i dont want to look at maps, a to z's or any paper alternatives thank you very much.

TomTom Go 300, basic entry level SatNav, we use it in the military staff cars all the time, never lets us down. Even got me to MCTC Colchester front gate....;-)

You don't need the bluetooth connection, the traffic downloads, the weather updates, etc that the others offer. Simple postcode to postcode navigation, add your own favourites, really simple. Deals on these all over the place at the moment, walk into any electrical shop and see what you can knock them down to.

Used to use Mapquest, maps, etc, but when you get stuck in rush hour in a strange place (Twickenham after a Varsity Match, for instance!), then the ability to re-program is priceless - especially when you see the rest of the losers sat in the long line because they can't read a map and think at the same time and are scared of getting lose - SatNav gives you the diversion and then puts you back on track!

Get the panasonic 2300, much better than the tom-tom and nav man etc. I do aprox 35,000miles a year. the only drawback is the cost of new disks. more info on it

thank you all for your input. i have managed to get hold of a medion al41800 from a friend of a friend of a friends dogs, cats mothers, sisters goldfish *cough*. it works really well for what i require.
