They forged a voluntary union with England: they were not forced to unite their Crown and Parliament with England's. Since the 1707 union, England and Scotland have built the biggest empire the world will ever see and, together, have defeated Napoleon, the Kaiser and Hitler.

You can bet your life that most Scots will be willing Croatia to beat England on Wednesday. Extending courtesy to the Scots is all very noble, but misguided when they continue to hate all things English.

I was f**cking delighted when Italy scored in the last minute. Every pub in Scotland will be full of people desperate for a Croatia win and wanting Isreal to go through. I do agree we should get behind Scotland...with all of us putting our shoulders to it we could push it into the North Sea! then they could have all the free education, healthcare and dole they want.

By the way I am not anti union at all. I think we are enriched by our ties, and only sorry that we can't remember what the Scots can't forget.
