True, but the next question from that journalist is aimed at getting RDZ to blame Tony and say he hasnt been backed enough & he quickly cuts her off saying ''no thats not what i mean'' and that ''he loves this club''. He is obviously not happy at losing, and would love more players at his disposal but in part he's also just highlighting the difficulty of playing against these bigger teams who have a larger more experienced squad. Its just the harsh reality.

We are hghly unlikely to exceed that or win any silverware being a feeder club, last season was an exception but that was achieved with all our best players, several which were then sold and not replaced with similar quality, midfield. It can appear like that but I think we were prepared for one major selling last summer, Mac Allister, and really didn’t want to part with Caicedo as well. It dragged on, the player wanted to move and Chelsea came up with a mind boggling amount to make an offer we couldn’t refuse. I think the plan was for Caicedo to go this summer so by my reckoning no major outgoings this summer!

Our club has ambition but it’s just not that obvious at the moment.

I know what the new target is over the next 5 years and it’s mightily ambitious for a club like ours. It’s included CL football.

With additional noise about not selling our best assets this year and other noises about ambitious summer window I suspect the plans were on hold until now.

I have been as frustrated as the rest of us at the seemingly lack of effort to replace our two main stars last year.

However, the stars do seem to be aligning with clubs above us threatened by FFP whereas we seem to be risk free considering the assets we have sold.

Indeed, and better tactics last night (more defence, not such a high line, don't start Enciso etc) could have had a far greater impact on the result than playing without Mitoma and Pedro.

And the reason a lot of these bigger teams have more experienced squads is...because they cherry pick the best players from clubs like us, as if things weren’t skewed enough in their favour without them doing that. All been said before, it’s the business model etc. but it destroys any hope of being remotely competitive at the business end.

Whilst I agree, he’s got a lot to learn - by definition he’s not destined for the top unless he shows a willingness to learn lessons and have a pragmatic plan b… right now, it’s pride before a fall - a pattern seemingly well established in his fledging coaching career.

Another thing which concerns me is the sheer amount of players who can’t manage 90 mins… outside of a core group, no one can make it past 60 mins… why? Intensity in training is too high, hence the growing fatigue based injuries and host of players simply unable to play for 90… again no coach can sustain this, and if Roberto can’t strike a balance he’s simply going to keep leaping from club to club with the same result… much like his hero.

Time will tell if he learns but at face value he has acknowledged that last night he has a lot to think about and learn. You are right in the sense if he puts this down to injuries and squad depth and does not alter something himself he will not progress but for now I choose to believe his ambition will force him to adjust (and perhaps some snubs from the top names being linked to him won’t hinder that either).

I do not see the issue with lasting 90min though and have been more concerned with the lack of intensity and concentration in our starts to games which has left us chasing games rather than controlling them (which uses more energy). If you look at our injuries March and Enciso was a twist on the pitch, Mitoma is back injury and Hinshelwood is a foot fracture which don’t point to training methods or fatigue. I also sympathise with De Zerbi a bit on depth as I was concerned with the sheer volume of games Pedro was playing without a break but when Wellbeck is not fit and Ferguson is out of form what choice did he have. Also Fati and Pervis have looked a shadow of their ability since returning from injury which has left us relying on the same players across 3 competitions which will cause fatigue. For me we need to increase the quality and reliability of the squad depth as Lallana, Milner, Webster and others are often not available through injury which for some in that category extends to before RDZ joining us.
