I made the Argus letters page today

With the other threads about the idiots making stupid suggestions I thought I'd have a look in the Argus and who should have the main headline letter? Me. I'm feeling quite pleased with myself. Don't know why but I am. One in the eye for a Nimby from a couple of weeks ago I'd like to think.

I couldn't resist it. When the idiot wrote the original letter there were so many incorrect facts that I had to write in. Just thought I'd tag that little bit about the AONB on the end. I'm surprised they printed it un-edited actually.

Lead letter in today's Argus, headlined "Grim fairytale has no relation to the facts":

I READ with astonishment the fairytale concocted by AFA Simmons (Letters, August 20) in suggesting an alternative site to Falmer but would like to suggest proper research is done on the subject before putting pen to paper.

I would like to know if Mr/Mrs Simmons has read John Prescott's report. It has set in motion another inquiry that shall seek more appropriate sites according to certain criteria but at no point does it say that a stadium will not be built at Falmer.

Perhaps he/she would like to direct me to the part of the report that rejects the proposal, because I cannot see it - or perhaps he/she is confusing Mr Prescott's decision with the opinions of the planning inspectors?

Also, I found AFA Simmons's grasp of local geography comical.

No, Falmer isn't in the city of Brighton and Hove but the site on which the club wants to build the stadium is, which you would know if you had researched your topic.

This is why it was Brighton and Hove City Council that initially granted planning permission.

Also, how it can be suggested that the Goldstone was not in the city of Brighton and Hove (the Hove part is the clue here) is beyond me.

The one major benefit Falmer can offer above all sites and that always seems to be overlooked is the presence of thousands of existing parking spaces at the universities of Sussex and Brighton that can be shared on matchdays.

If the stadium were to be built at Waterhall, as the residents of Falmer have suggested, far more green land would need to be destroyed to accommodate visitors to a 22,000-seater stadium.

Finally, in response to the residents of Falmer who insist on using the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty argument to fight their cause, I would like to know what was on the site of Falmer village before their houses were built?

Could it be that gorgeous, picturesque downland was destroyed to build them there? Surely not.

The club and fans want (and I believe will eventually get) Falmer and are willing to work and co-exist with the residents.

We don't want to disrupt or destroy the village, we just want our own home and it has yet to be decided, despite what AFA Simmons says, that Falmer is not the best place for us.
