Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln. The greatest ever acting performance I ever have seen in my life. A lesson in the art and craft of acting. Daniel Day Lewis WAS Lincoln. An extraordinary performance I was privileged to see.

guessing you missed David Lopez in - Bye bye magpies part 2

How do you know he was Lincoln? Do you know what Lincoln was like? It could have been a piss poor representation of him.

So he looks likes you imagined he would look, dodgy English/American/Irish accent, but you enjoyed the film........boring!

Well actually yes. Have you seen the film ?, photos of Lincoln or are you just trying to get a rise as these threads always seem to go ?

Some people may indeed find it boring. I found it utterly absorbing. No aliens, no special effects, no action scenes, no sentimentality, just a thorough re telling of January 1865 and the lead up to the abolition of slavery in the USA. Day Lewis was extraordinary.

9.1
No sentimentality? Can't be a Spielberg Film then.....

9/4 you have put this exact post on Seagulls Chat
Evens it'll take until Lincoln 4 - Hatgate, until there's the same amount of replies.

No US far from it, i have not seen the film.....the trailer was enough to put me off. You have to admit his accent is very dodgy! He does look like the images we have of Lincoln and i suppose i would have to watch the film to give my full opinion on DDL's acting ability but on the strength of the trailer....no thanks. I enjoyed Nixon once on a plane from New Zealand. Does that help?

By all acounts the accent was spot on. He spent 6 months trying to perfect it. What makes you think it was dodgy ?

Only my opinion but it sounds all over the place, not English, Irish or "New" American! Just a mixture of the lot. Perhaps my hearing is going!

I certainly intend to see it. I still maintain that, for my taste, Spielberg's defect as a Film Director is a sentimentality that almost descends into mawkishness.

Having said that I don't think there is any other current American Director that has the historical sensibility as well as the technical skill to make such a film.

Showing my ignorance here - I honestly thought DDL was playing Lord Bracknell, not Abraham Lincoln!!!

That would kind of make it spot on, wouldn't it.
