I have been coerced if not a little henpecked into going to The Preston Park Tavern

...tonight.

This of course used to be a big Albion pub and now appears to be a Cockney / Brighton Wannabee poncey pub.

However have any NSCers been recently and can give a positive feedback to reduce my foreboding.

Good food albeit a bit pricey, harveys is great with a reasonable selection of beer.

The manager has experience of opening pubs on the moon....

They lack atmosphere!!

As a pub-next-to-a-station, and with little in the way of booths or tables with privacy, it has a somewhat random lot of regulars.
There's a bloke who takes his dog in, then goes to pains to warn people not to approach it or let it mix with other dogs
(the 'house' dog is much better, a black shepherd who suffers all those people every day)
and everyone seems to turn around to view the latest person through the door

It can warm up though, once you get past such like characteristics, and focus on the people you are there to hang out with.

That's all well and good - except the PPT isn't next to a station!

I REFUSE to go in there since it was ponsified. My mrs and her friends have 'lunch parties' in there which shows you how far standards have slipped from the days when it was a blokes' pub.

Quite Impressed opted for Pigeon to start and then a jolly good Steak also forced down a brulee. The combination of that 3 pints of Harveys and half a bottle of Rose the mrs didn't want to finish will shortly be taken out on the smallest room!!

Didn't notice a lack of atmos seemed to be all locals, one guy next to us had a Sussex RDF tshirt on!!

This is just about the nearest pub to me just shades The Dyke Road Tavern.

The Station is ok although a little cliquey I have more than one 'Slaughtered Lamb' moment in there !!

I don't know where the clientele COME from (its that same with the DRT) I would wager its not from around here. (Home match days excepted)
