My two year old son had a hernia op a couple of months ago and he was running around the hospital ward about 4 hours after it was done.

There are different sorts of hernia...the one kids usually have is an inguinal hernia, low down in the stomach and they just repair the muscle and its a quick recovery time. Both my boys had that and they were up and about in a few hours.

Adults often have a spigelian or epigastric hernia, higher up in the body, which is usually repaired with a mesh patch, and the recovery time is a lot longer, and a lot more pain as more things have to be moved about to repair it. Friend had a double hernia repaired Tuesday, has gone home this morning from hospital, but will probably be off work for up to a month.

I think the surgeon enjoyed stabbing me as I work at the hospital :D I did ask if I could change my mind before they put me out.

The worst thing though was when they thought I had gone into urinary retention. You have never seen me leap out of bed so fast. The talk of catheters
