I do 3 days in the office and 2 at home……generally.

However, things are coming under more scrutiny.

If I take 2 days annual leave my companies expectation is for me to work in the office the remaining 3 days. Previously I might have popped in for 1 or 2.

What’s the norm?

We're hybrid - 2 in / 3 out - but on set specific days for each dept; if I happen to take annual leave on my 'in' days I'm not expected to come into the office the rest of the week to make up for it.

Mine is a structure of Monday Wednesday Friday in the office. If I take annual leave, nothing changes. Why change a working formula and structure.

2 in.

Will be job searching from July onwards so this is one of the areas I expect I will have to accept will change at a new employer although some I speak to seem to suggest a visit once a fortnight etc

2 days is nice. The days in the office are FAR less productive once all the chit chat has been done....

I work in Finance in London and we've been asked to do 4 days per week in the office, but most seem to have settled happily on 3, and this appears to be tolerated for now. We do have that same edict on taking leave.

I know that for new hires we have been insisting on 4 days from the outset, and that they have lost several chosen candidates because of it.

We’ve been told they are changing to an “office first” company as we should be collaborating more cross functionally. They want 4-5 days in the office.

Bonus’s are paid on 31st March so I suspect we will see quite a few resignations in April before the policy drifts away again by June and isn’t talked about again for another 12 months

Ridiculous really

2 days in office, 3 from home.

We have a team day and then everyone else went for the second on a Monday as you don't have to come in on the bank holidays. Most of my team book leave on the days they're expected to come into the office

New Govt. worker's rights will make it increasingly difficult for employers to mandate days employees
have to come in.

I suspect a lot of back-to-work (which is an insult) bollox is driven by the owners of
the office space and don't want to see their precious income from office rentals disappearing.
Perhaps another way to look it particularly in the winter months is that by working at home you are paying for the extra gas and electric.

Not the first time I've heard this.

Unfair on those who have day care/au pairs on regular days.

That's just whack! It smacks of lazy HR who can't do logic or calculation.

I you take 5 days off do they expect you to work 8 days (out of 7) that week too?

I've been doing M,T and Th in the office, WFH on W and F. There was never any fannying about "making up" office days if any were taken as leave, that is just weapons-grade GOONERY. Whoever came up with that needs a dry slap.

Thrillingly though, the lease on our office in Haywards Heath runs out later this year and they've decided not to renew it (there was only about 10 of us rattling about anyway). So as of last week, I am now WFH all week, except for 1 day a month when I have to yomp up to our London head office in EC4 for the day, which is going to be the last Thursday in every month. LOVELY.

I was a bit shocked to see that an on-peak one day Travelcard from Portslade weighs in at £70.20, mind. Kinell!!
But I can claim it back on expenses.

We have the same policy (in the main) as the OP. We pro-rata as follows:
  • Work 5, In 3
  • Work 4, In 3
  • Work 3, In 2
  • Work 2, In 1
  • Work 1, In 1
We're having the same scrutiny too, but that's because people haven't been doing the above

I’d guess it’s more for the folk who use leave/excuses to avoid coming in to the office.

We work one day in the office on a Monday and the rest from home (we do mon-fri). We’ve tried to be as chilled out about it as we can i.e if folk are off that’s fine, if people have appointments or plumbers etc that’s fine, they can work from home instead.

Then people started taking the piss, they’d try always having appointments or people coming on the office days rather than days they were already at home. One person went a bit OTT so they got told they have to come in on another day and make it up, because you can’t make everyone else come into the office and let someone away with always swerving it.
