Typically polarising on here.
I think it's really important that the broader issues that incidents (like this) bring up are discussed and pushed up the ladder in terms of public discourse.
Abuse of power, especially In relation to sex and young people/children is obviously a huge concern to most of us and it still isn't talked about properly and productively.
The continued absolute disregard of the impact on individuals, both by the tabloids and on social media, is something else we really need to start accepting and trying to change.
The effects of sites like onlyfans, internet porn in general on both the client and customer.
Our understanding of and empathy towards mental health.
Our acceptance of sexuality.
BUT, if you look at the facts here all we know is that Huw Edwards has paid an adult (albeit a young one) for photos, company, whatever. We know the police don't think any crime was committed and we know the young person has released a statement contradicting the original reports. We also know that he's had severe depression for at least twenty years.
Now there might be something more sinister going on but as it stands all Edwards has really done is something that some people find immoral but that is actually pretty f***ing normal. I've known and know people who make a lot of money through sex work, the majority of their custom base is older men.
We need to get off our high horses here- we have all done something questionable in our lives. That's what humans do, but beating Edwards with this stick is scapegoating and imho totally diluting the more important discussions here.
It's just another example of how we let this kind of faux outrage replace any real conversation about actual issues.
Edwards isn't the problem here.

He is also facing claims about inappropriate behaviour toward two current and one former, junior members, of BBC staff. They all state feeling uncomfortable at the messaging, which happened this year. It remains to be seen whether any more allegations emerge.
" This remains a very complex set of circumstances " ( Tim Davie )
