A couple of things about that.

Firstly, why exactly does he feel the need to put that out there, rather than just, you know, not saying anything?

Secondly, why does she announce the news as though she's not only not heard it before, but had never spoken English before, and then basically repeat word for word what the other guy said but with a slightly different tone of voice?

There seems to be a pronouncement that he's not interested in every job he's linked to.

Maybe it helps remind Chelsea payroll to keep the cheques coming.
Or just to remind everyone, that he's unemployed from choice, not because he isn't wanted anywhere.

It's rare for German clubs to allow any approach to a manager under contract. More so during the season. The Potter scenario wouldn't happen in Germany. (yes, I went there)

Managers get sacked mid season here but it's always a promotion from within, whether temporary or permanent, or an out of work manager.

Pre season some years ago, Leipzig wanted Nagelsmann as manager. Nagelsmann served an entire seasons notice at Hoffenheim before moving on at the end of the season. The management hire & fire culture works different here. Nobody is privy to the T&Cs of Hürzeler's contract but it wouldn't be an absolute shock if FCSP were to dig their heels in.

That's pretty obvious.

If Potter doesn't want the job then we're obviously going to appoint someone else.

As its been announced he is on our shortlist, when we appoint whomever it will be, he wants to make sure the world knows he didn't want the job before new coach is appointed rather than stay silent and some people think he just wasnt preferred to XYZ the new Brighton manager.

More likely that Naylor hasn't got a clue. The club aren't likely to be telling him any more than they are telling us.

That piece a few days ago definitely had a vibe of testing the water on behalf of the club. Indeed, they'll only feed him what suits the agenda.

Rydstrom seems like a depressing appointment, destined to fail. Zero pedigree and limited success in a league equivilent to League One at best.

Hurzeler seems like a wildcard option. Had a bit of success and is young enough to be adaptable, but still a massive risk that could go tits up.

Potter is the obvious choice. Proven quality, knows the club. Pretty much guaranteed he won't get us in a relegation battle, even from the perspective of the most pessimistic of fans. Let's just pray he gets the gig.

Let's pray he doesn't! I'm not inclined to welcome back a dullard who shafted us mid season and took half the gang with him. He also knows a lot of fans will feel like that so why would he want to return and put himself under so much pressure from the outset? A classic ' never go back ' scenario.

What seems more bizarre, for a club that's allegedly a master at succession planning if you believe the hype.

Is that the club wouldn't protect themselves a bit more so they don't look so publically rejected as they just have been.

But reported by who? My suspicion is that neither party was interested and the media like Sky just generate click bait what with the ' back story ' of dumping us for Chelsea.

Even today Sky who has exactly stated that Potter is not returning? Neither him of the club?

I don't know if it matters, much in the same way that RDZs comments might have been interpreted wrong. It's the general perception.
Quite clearly a lot of the noise in the press and online has moved away from the absolute positivity we've grown accustom to to suddenly 'hang on, this isn't very Brighton'.
Doubts about our transfer strategy, the ambition of the board, sacking RDZ and his apparent unhappiness, seemingly going all out for an unlikely target who then extends his contract, being interested in Potter and being turned down.
However we all feel, clearly all of this is not something the club will feel is particularly good from a PR perspective.
