Thought I was relatively sanguinary about it at full time. No complaints. The better team won. Game played in the right spirit. Generally very good refereeing. Etc.

It didn’t last. I feel miserable as sin now. So sad. So close. I could cry if I just left myself go a little but…

Bugger! Again.

I feel your pain, at home it was a great chance

In the few weeks we'll be back at Amex, reasons to be cheerful!!!

Surprised how much people are just giving Italy the 'better team' treatment. We had the first half, they had the second. But they cheated throughout and could easily have had a couple of players sent off.
Was it Chiellini who didn't know which part of his body to hold when he was feigning injury?

Disappointment. So close; closer and less galling than any of the really painful past defeats. Hurt was funny when Baddiel & Skinner put it in a song 25 years ago and it captured things perfectly at the time, but I think it might now be time to put the idea of hurt to bed. England currently play at a level and with tournament results of which any nation would be proud. We might just need a different rallying cry.

I found it easier to take the defeat, not because of previous experience but because from the middle of the first half it all seemed inevitable and therefore I was resigned to it. In the second half we were clueless and that didn't change despite a very brief resurgence in extra time. In previous semi final defeats the games seemed much more on a knife edge right to the wire.

Don't know about anyone else, but having witnessed semi final loses in '90, '96 & '18, losing a final doesn't hurt anywhere near as much.

Proud of the boys tonight, lost to the better team (imho) and were a couple of kicks away from becoming European Champions.

This. Feeling quite cheery, actually.

Pull yourself together, man!

And brace yourself for another helter-skelter relegation battle season ahead.

Mind you, I think I'm still drunk from last night. I'll review my mojo later today when I've sobered up.

I think you watched a different match from everyone else. Italy had more than 60% possession in the first half and had six shots to England's one. During the whole match, they had 65% possession and 19 shots to England's six. Apart from the goal, Donnarumma had nothing to do.

I'm not sure where you get the couple of players sent off from: Jorghino could have gone for his tackle on Grealish (although it would have been harsh) but there were no other incidents.

It was a great tournament for England but Italy were a much better team, last night and throughout the tournament.

Italy didn't look like scoring at all in the first half, they were limited to long range hit and hopes. Can't believe England only had one shot?

there were no other incidents.

Really? Yet they received 5 yellow cards?
What about Chiellini's judo throw on Saka?

Are you suggesting that Chiellini should have been sent off for that? Really????

ICH is a great one to motivate the opposition and ram it back down our throats, as the Italian player did to camera post-match.

I have to agree, but maybe the mellowing that comes with age has something to do with it.

I agree with this. Just getting to a final felt like a victory.

It's easy to be rational too. Italy deserved that win. Beat some quality sides on the way there too.

Over it already, the best and more tactically astute manager and team won it. We weren’t cheated or unlucky, suck it up and move on
