Random question this I know, but does anyone know of either a very large and extensively stocked off-license, or some sort of European Market shop, where I could get hold of Hungarian beer?

(In the Brighton or Worthing area)

There are a couple of eastern European shops on London Rd - one at the foot of Trafalgar Street (which has a decent offie halfway up). You could try there.

Must say that I haven't seen much Hungarian beer about in this country. In fact, I haven't come across much in Hungary when I've been there (although there is some).

Don't know why you'd want it though. Even the Hungarians hate their own beer.

I have been to Budapest since I visited Krakow.

Whilst I can still name the beers I sampled in Poland, Okocim, Tyskie, Żywiec etc. I can't recall drinking one Hungarian beer!

Going on a stag do to Budapest next weekend and I'm the best man. The night before we go I am having the groom and the 2 ushers round to mine for the evening. I am going to cook us Hungarian food, play (awful looking) Hungarian gypsy music that I bought off Amazon, with the Hungarian flag draped across the wall, and hopefully........ drink some Hungarian alcohol!

i'd suggest either Slovak beer if you can find it or Hungarian wine. Hungarians drink Slovak beer in preference to their own except when they are looking for the cheapest possible canned stuff. I found this out by walking into a decent looking bar in central Budapest and asking what a good local beer to try would be. The barman said the local beer is no good, drink this Slovakian beer which is what we all have. Can't remember the name of the beer or the bar but was just like a good Czech pilsner. The best known Hungarian wines are Tokaji which is unique and often pricy or Bulls Blood which is cheaper. Lots of other reasonably priced Hungarian wine about.

Yeah, there's lots of reasonable Hungarian wine around. Or you could try some of their spirits - they do a mean plum brandy. I think you'll be lucky to find Hungarian beer though.

That Plum Brandy is a killer. If you want to get up the next day then I would stay well away from that stuff.
