Really?

I post a straight up and honest post why I as an autistic person find things like humming a trigger and how listening to music calms me and this is your response? To mock me?

This post doesn’t put you in a very good light.

For the record- admitting to being autistic doesn’t give people Carte Blanche to mock me, constantly berate my posting behaviour then gaslight me by saying I am taking it personally- I don’t find the constant teasing and trolling about my posting content funny - I find it exhausting and it triggers anxiety so please STOP.
He was posting in a light-hearted and humorous manner, as I have done on occasions and got a similar OTT response. I appreciate that your autism means you miss the humour and take it seriously and personally but it's still humour.

Country music is much, much worse than the noise distractions you have mentioned. There's a reason it starts with c**t.
In your opinion!

For me it works so live and let live eh? This thread is about people not liking ‘hummers’ NOT about my musical tastes.

My response is not OTT and I yes, I fail to see how my coping mechanisms like listening to music on my headphones or unable to tolerate certain sensory triggers because they cause me physical pain is a topic of humour for anyone that has an ounce of compassion - I would never mock anyone for their disabilities like that.

Everybody has different tolerance levels to things in life - all autistic people vary widely in how they respond and in their traits - and the severity of their symptoms - I am in constant autistic burnout because of additional severe physical illness, some people like HWT are high functioning.

- I can’t tolerate being mocked for my autistic traits nor should I have to - one of which is the tendency to fixate on topics and do a lot of research or feel the need to over explaining n things to avoid communication problems - it causes me additional anxiety to that I already feel from having to cope with the daily environment of day to day living.

Back on thread topic - hearing humming for some people may be mildly annoying for most but for someone like myself it’s like the sound of fingernails screeching g down a blackboard.

Can't say anyone has noticed

People really need to get a grip if people humming is the worst thing in their life ;)

Now let's talk about people who announce they don't take sugar in hot drinks with an air of smugness like it's a badge of honour! Flogging is too good for them!

????

Im really struggling to understand why a thread about humming has turned into a pile on about my posting habits.

I haven’t attacked or mocked anyone on this thread - I was just saying why humming and various other triggers are particularly painful as someone who has autism - so how about returning the favour? ☹️

I am not a bad person -I have autism ffs and recently that has became very difficult to live with - I’ll use whatever the few coping mechanisms still work for me.

A Crack House
Just over 20 years I used to work in an open plan office with an old duffer who couldn’t move anywhere in the room without bomba deeing or rom bom boming.

He also used to manage to kick the bottom of any chair that he had to pass on his way somewhere.

I used to sit in front of the stationary cupboard so I knew what was coming when the shout of ‘I’ve run out of staples’ went up.

‘La Dee da Dee’ thwack, tackled from behind on my chair, door opened, staples obtained, door closed, ‘rom bomb bom ba Dee’ thwack again, back to his chair.

And people wondered why I had to go to the pub every lunchtime and after work and then got a job that didn’t involve working in a office!

Yet another attempt at humour attacked. Not responding to anything you post going forward.

I think I would have just hidden his stapler 🙂

FFS. You’re autistic and neurodivergent? Crikey, I never knew.

FWIW (not much) I’ve been on ADHD meds for 12 years. Who cares?

Why are you being so hostile? And if you know I have autism and get upset when I am mocked for the coping strategies I use, why continue mock me?

As for you having ADHD - I care.

I care about anyone struggling to cope in life for whatever reason

My niece has ADHD and is on meds. It’s well controlled but she has struggled with it.

There are no meds to control autistic burnout or to stop the almost daily meltdowns because I can’t cope with noise and artificial lighting that pervades modern living. I’ve had 4 hospital appointments in the past 3 weeks and every one of them resulted in a panic attack and meltdown because I couldn’t cope with the noise and lights or crowds.

I wish to god there was a medication that would stop the confusion and panic I constantly feel in noisy, crowded, environments or the severe anxiety I feel when people are aggressive or hostile towards me.

This isn’t an attack on you, or anyone else on NSC - please don’t take it as such.

Mate don't do this.

You don't like noises, so you listen to country music - which most of us will imagine as the noise of redneck banjo fiddling hobo singing about his beautiful daughter-sister while arsefucking a pig oinking in panic.

People thought that was fun. No more, no less.

That is not really the reason for my obvious stress response here and it’s not a case of simply ‘disliking’ noises I have an evisceral and physical reaction to some noises - like humming - I am simply trying g to explain why and how I cope.

The subsequent pile on about my autism by one or two posters and ad nauseam digs about my post lengths ( one of which was a post earlier entirely in defence of you btw) and the fact I don’t understand the humour in being the butt of other people’s jokes is entirely unnecessary and unrelated to the thread topic..

But I don’t want to derail your thread so feel free to get back on topic.

Im out of here.

I knew a lady who hummed even she was happy.
Even better she was happy when she had her mouth full.

My manager used to doo-doo-doo his way through that canteen music in Star Wars at least 6-10 times a day.

Thank god for earbuds and talkSPORT.

You're a decent poster on here but really, just let yourself be mocked sometimes. It's harmless and happens to us all on NSC. No one is seriously wishing harm. Being offended is a choice, you don't have to take it, it's very tiring for you. Nowwww, I'm not saying this is easy and I remind myself often but it is a better way to be imo.

You may disregard this suggestion because I'm afraid I hum and whistle often.... and I cannot carry a tune, keep in the right key or remember lyrics.
