Being a full international isn't a track record these days?

Not for Championship football (12 caps across 5 years btw). Hopefully he'll be terrific, but he's still an unknown quantity, we have no idea whether he will adapt to the rigours of this division, same as the other ones.

The club have already stated that punts like this is the policy now, they're looking abroad because its cheap. We're not unique in that, but it's a risky policy when we're assembling more and more players who've never so much as kicked a ball in England. Proven quality in this League comes at a premium we don't appear willing to stretch to though, and haven't for some time.

Try watching what you're seeing. That season was TURGID.

I have to agree. I've not consistently enjoyed watching the Albion play since Poyet. Garcia came close maybe once or twice during his entire time here, and as for Sami.. not in the same league. I expect Hughton's Brighton to be different. I'm expecting a more resilient and hardworking team that's stronger in the tackle. It's won't be as beautiful as Poyet's-era* but nothing can be as dull as what Garcia served up.

Things are changing, that's for sure. After OG and SH, it's almost certainly for the better.

*Love him or hate him he's produced the pinnacle of Albion-footballing-style for many, many years.

It's a pity that the signings so far in the main haven't been the attacking midfield and forward players we need.

I hope we'll get 2 or 3 more in by Sevilla or else we'll disappear into a pit of despair.

I make it two.The Garcia season was shit, despite the barely-deserved play-off place.

It wasn't great, but I can't think of another team that DESERVED the final playoff place particularly more than us. And the faces of the Reading fans when they heard that Super Leo had scored made my season.

In fairness, proven Championship signings generally cost a lot of money and we'd be competing with most clubs in the division. You have to take punts. Ulloa was a punt and was very successful as have a number of others we took in recent years. Bong at least has some Championship experience while Hemed has a decent record in Spain. He may not be the answer to all our problems but I'm confident that him and Baldock will improve on our striking options from the end of last season.

We still need pace on the wings but the club have clearly been trying to find that (Marshall would definitely count as proven at this level). It may take time but if we do get a player like him, it would be worth waiting until August.

Absolutely, sometimes a punt works out (and at north of £2m, Ulloa certainly was a biggun). Hell, ALL these signings might turn out to be great business for all we know, but I'd feel more assured of our prospects this season if we were bringing in more players who have established track records in this division.

Marshall would be a great signing for starters, but is exactly the kind of deal we so rarely seem to get over the line. See also Ward, Conway, Clayton etc. All players who know this league and had something to offer, but ended up elsewhere.

There's still time, maybe they'll pull a few rabbits from the hat between now and September. They certainly need to.

This place is like a school playground. It's July! As I write this, Man Utd are still looking for a striker, so are Arsenal. Chelsea need a LB, Man City are looking for a winger and several other players, and Spurs haven't signed hardly anyone!

If the richest most successful clubs in the country with CL football and huge budgets are still looking for players to improve their teams, not just squads then why should a Championship side with a mid table budget have completed all their business by now?

We obviously need to strengthen, we probably need to wait until some of the richer clubs have done their business first because guess what? Rich clubs don't sell players until they have secured better ones. There will be a sudden rush of players moving as the window gets nearer the end, same as there is every other year since the transfer window was introduced. At that point players will become available and deals will be done.

The players we get may be great or crap, who knows? But to expect them to be all signed now is just ridiculous...

I can only presume we can't afford to do this. Whether that's down to fee, or wages, or both is anyone's guess. Other clubs manage it, but as you say, we never seem to get these deals over the line.

Yeah and you're the school Dunce, the top 4 clubs in the land only need to tweak their multi million pound squads with the odd addition here and there, where our squad needs major rebuilding still, and the club's you mention didn't come close to relegation last season so there's no panic for any of them, now go and stand in the corner and don't come back out till you write something sensible

Conway was a frustrating one at the time, as it seemed that we were on the verge but that he was offered a better deal by Blackburn - a team in our division - at the last minute. However, in retrospect I'm glad that we didn't match Blackburn's offer when you look where that sort of spending got them: loss of £42m in 13/14; consistently finishing outside the top 6; an FFP transfer embargo; and having to sell their best players. All of this while still receiving parachute payments!

Oh get you, melt. I don't need to stand in the corner, but you probably need to get your nappy changed. Flap any harder and you might take off.

The point I was trying to make has clearly passed you by. If these clubs can't get who they want, when they want, what makes you think we can?

We clearly need new players, who thinks we don't? Try and dry your tears long enough to think instead of bleating like a lost sheep. If we get to September in this shape then I will be pushing you out of the way to whinge how unfair it is, till then, try and calm down a little bit eh? Oh and go and stand in the corridor, you are getting on my nerves...

That day made the season alone, but there were some other great games as well, such as 3-1 and 4-1 against Leicester. Beating both QPR and Burnley 2-0 at home wasn't a bad achievement either.

Is there any place for this sort of rational thinking on this thread?
