er yes I have a book I purchased at the Titanic exibihtion in Vegas and it states the ship had a engine room fire soon after it left Southampton that raged until it sank.

No - there is a school of belief that there was a fire in one of the coal bunkers on the Titanic. The Titanic, being steam powered, needed coal to generate steam to drive the engines. The coal was stored in huge bunkers. Occasionally, the coal would ignite, and these fires would be almost impossible to put out. It was believed that such a fire started in one of the bunkers, and that the Titanic was racing to port to sort the problem out, which is why she was doing a higher speed than expected through known iceberg fields.
