Huddersfield now in trouble with the league who have now charged them!! Probably mean a small fine then?

Good. Dock them points! Chuck them out the play-offs!

Here's the thing. If Huddersfield had won that match they would be 3rd, and Fulham are likely to finish 6th, so would most likely be playing each other in the play off semi. After an aggregate 9-1 drubbing in the league I'm sure Wagner is "not disappointed" they lost last week and are now 5th.

I would fine them £500k and deduct 7 points so that they have to win on Sunday or Leeds would make the play offs. That would stop others doing the same in the future to manipulate who they meet in the play offs.

But why?

If they want to throw away prize money that's up to them....

Tell that to Forest and Blackburn fans. Huddersfield do not play a full strength side and manage to lose 2-0 to 10 man Birmingham. It's called integrity, and Wagner appears to have none.

Shame there isn't enough time to have the game replayed at Hudds' expense. That said, he is paid to do what is best for his team. Arguably, the rules need changing to stop this.

Is there not a rule inplace which states that all teams must play the strongest available side. The argument being that 10 player were suffering knocks and strains and that it was the strongest as the rest were too tired after a long hard season.

Massive and Hull both rested players last season and were fresh for the play offs - both made the final

Us and Derby didn't rest anyone and we both lost in play offs

Massive and Hull were not fined at all last year

The play off changes that PB suggested after our exit last year are only way to stop above - this involved giving 3rd and 4th paced teams more advantage in the play offs

Forest and Blackburn are not Huddersfields problem.

It's called doing the best for the club you manage

It's a form of cheating within the rules and should be condemned. You could equally apply the same argument to managers who don't stop or condemn players who dive for penalties. It's wrong, it's unfair, it's against the spirit of the game and the rules need to be changed.

What is the point of having a "squad" of players if there is a restriction on the team you select from that squad?

It's the manager's job to decide which is the best side for a particular match not the League's.

And here's me thinking that getting in to the playoffs with games to spare was going to be an advantage. Turns out we have to let the EFL pick our side for us regardless of the situation.

For what it's worth, Wagner rotates his team, and has done all season. That's why we've managed to get at the top of the league, we use our squad to make sure that the 11 picked are as fresh as possible. I'd argue that's actually playing a "stronger" team than just picking the same players from the last game who are all at 75% and barely going to break into a sweat.

Fact is, unlike Birmingham, we played the previous Tuesday and despite what the professionally offended are saying, we did pick a pretty decent strength side, full of players that were looking to impress to try and force their way into the side for the playoffs. IN the second half we brought on Nahki Wells and Aaron Mooy. Phil Billing even picked up an injury, taking him out of the next few weeks.

If the EFL is seriously "looking in to this", as suggested by Sky Sports, then the game has gone. It's not our fault that Forest and Blackburn are in this situation, why not actually look into the reasons why they are? Same as the Orient - Blackpool situation, the priorities in this game are completely wrong.

The result affected 6 teams all with something pretty big at stake. That’s arrogant and completely at odds with any sort of notion of fair play. It is deplorable tactic and any sense of achievement and admiration they had earnt from the footballing world this season, is rightly in tatters now. I had wanted Huddersfield to go up through the playoffs, but I don't now.
I particularly don’t like the attitude of Huddersfield fans towards the reaction from those at the bottom which is “we’re in the playoff’s you’re not, end of”. The fans of Forest and Blackburn have every right to be seething with Huddersfield.

It doesn’t affect us or our season in anyway now, but it does make a mockery of the game that we love. And the reason I’m annoyed about it is because it should annoy EVERY fan of the game.

We can’t sit here writing our threads about FIFA and how corrupt they are, yet let this pass as “part of the game”. This is the definition of the slippery slope. If you let this slide then you setting the precedent for everything that follows. If Huddersfield want to play that tactic then they should be prepared for any consequences and I’d like to think that would include a 10 point deduction, which is what they give teams for going into administration and which in my opinion is on much sturdier moral ground then Huddersfield’s actions.

But this isn't just about using a squad of players, this is about them playing for a defeat. They lost a game against a team that hadn't won in 14 games and only won once in their previous 25, whilst playing the best part of 70 mins with 10 men. I know you will say that anything can happen in football, but given Wagner had said before hand that they would "play smart", then picks a weakend team and they end up losing against a woeful relgation haunted team with 10 men, then it all looks a bit suspicious.

Of course there is no evidence that they cheated, if there was then the punishment should be consdierable. But there is evidence from Wagner's pre match comments and the 10 changes he made to his starting lineup that they weren't approaching the game in the same they would have other league games. And that is what we're saying is unfair to everyone else with something to play for. I'll happily go on record now and say that I wouldn't want Brighton to adopt those tatics. If we are ever in their position, I'd be happy for us to get slung out of the playoffs for doing what they've done.

Well said. Personally I think it stinks. I wonder if any Brighton fans defending Wagner are the same Brighton fans complaining how unfair it was that Wednesday rested players in the games leading up to the play-offs whilst we were going hell for leather last season?

If you don't like it stick to your own forum. And yeah I do think you're a bunch of cheats and I hope you stay down and your squad gets picked apart.

Bradford made 9 changes on Saturday, are they "a bunch of cheats" too?
We made 10 changes for the Reading game, were we cheating then too?
The team we selected against Rotherham and Wigan in our latest games against them this season were pretty much the same as the one picked on Saturday, were we cheating then? (we won both, so I guess it's not "cheating" if we win).

This all feels quite inconsistent.

Sorry, it's a perfectly reasonable point of view, so you can give up with your "plucky Town" bollocks.

Had you been playing, say, Brentford or Preston then fine, but you were playing a team fighting against relegation. Did you play a weakened team at Blackburn or Forest? Of course not. If we had been one of those teams, I think I'd be furious.

Bradford made 9 changes on Saturday, are they "a bunch of cheats" too?
Yes, although you could easily argue that Rochdale only had a very slim chance of sneaking into the play-offs anyway. On the other hand, Huddersfield effectively handing their opponents 3 points had a major impact on the league table.
