Huddersfield Town could earn up to £10m if promoted

Promotion to the Championship could be worth £10m to Huddersfield Town, the club's chief executive believes.

Town host Bournemouth on Wednesday in the second leg of the play-offs after drawing the first leg 1-1.

Nigel Clibbens told BBC Radio Leeds: "You get a bit of TV money [in the playoffs], but there are bigger rewards for getting promotion.

"Our commercial income would probably double so we're looking at turning over well over £10m."

Clibbens continued: "If you were to get to the final you get a bigger share of the pool of funds that's collected from the playoff matches, so that's not too much.

"We don't want to get out of this league just for financial reasons, but it does make a big impact.

"In terms of pure central distribution that comes from the League, that's worth probably £3.5m.

When you've found someone who does good, you've got to keep them, so we want Lee to stay

Nigel Clibbens
"And then the away support you'd expect to come to the stadium would probably increase by multiples, it is worth a lot of money."

I read that as being total turnover of £10m, which is very different to it being worth £10m to them. Our turnover will rise far more than Huddersfield's because of the move from Withdean to the Amex as well.

Brighton's (Withdean era) revenues ending up being about £4.5m per year.

Champ Clubs (those without PL parachute money) have revenues of £15m to £20m, including some northern/midlands clubs with lower seat prices and less exec stuff.

You can see how the Albion's income might go up 4 fold in one season.

Don't think itszamora is saying that it is. He said that out revenue will increase far more than Hudderfield. It will because they would move up in their existing stadium. We'll be moving from Withdean to The Amex - the difference being the move up a division and moving to a bigger stadium. He's right - just worded slightly ambiguously?

With good promotion and financial and team management I believe Tony Bloom can recoup most of his investment in building the stadium in the first 4 years.

Acceding to player demands or spending on big star players will NOT be the way to do it, but I imagine Tony knows well when to fold and when to hold - and how much to put in the pot.

Let's remember it's not a name that makes a player valuable, but his performances on a regular basis. We will strike gold from future stars, and we'll undoubtedly have to sell one or two and accept good money for them. I don't expect he'll look to those profits to repay for the stadium though - I just have a feeling we are going to see Albion players emerge and thrive, current squad members included.
